Hi, Many years ago (ok, it was decades ago) I was told that when you break in a new car, vary speeds, use highways and local roads, no cruise controls...
My daughter is buying a new Subaru. Does that advice still apply to new cars?
Thanks
Helena
Hi Helena:
I would say that is outdated advice. Best thing to do is change the oil after 3,000-5,000 miles. Then change it at least 2x per year.
Nothing wrong with trying every device on the car to ensure it works as designed. Modern electronics either work or don't work right out of the box.
Congrats & good luck with the new car.
Thanks, Tom!
My daughter's been doing a lot of reading, but she was glad that I was checking with CCDV.
Hope she has good luck with her Subaru.
I would follow the recommendations in the owners manual for Subaru.
The break-in instructions for a Chevrolet Corvette (C8) are different than a Subaru.
Thanks!
I can imagine they're different.
(And I write that with a big smile)
That’s exactly the way you should break it in except I use country roads. You can hit the highways when you have 500 miles on it. I also believe in a first oil change at about 1000 miles. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by breaking it in easy. Good luck with your new Subaru.
Thanks, Jeff!
I'll let my daughter know. She was glad I was asking CCDV members.
And yes, I taught her to drive my '79, with a manual transmission. 😎
