My first Ride

Did I ever mention my first ride in a Corvette to any of you?

Well listen up...

It was 1968, I was 18 years old, young and foolish, as most of us were at that wonderful age. I had a best friend and his Mom would buy him most anything that he wanted. Well, he wanted a new Corvette and he got one. A 1968 L88, 435 horse power 427CI. It was painted British green with tobacco interior. This car was a rocket ship. It was everything I dreamed of.

I will never forget, it was a beautiful Saturday night in July and we were ready to cruze the streets in this wonderful machine. Now my friend, a crazy guy to begin with, was not used to all this horse power, not to mention his lack of experience with a car of this magnatude. With this deadly combination at hand ,we were about to have a very bad moment in our lives.

It was about 1 AM in the morning and we were cruzing up Veree Rd. I was riding shot gun. My friend down shifted into third and floored it as we entered a curve in the road, we had to be doing no less than 100 MPH as he entered the curve. He quickly lost control of the vehicle and the back end spun viciously to the right and we were heading off the road towards a wooded area at a very high rate of speed.

The car of my dreams was about to become my worst nightmare. I glanced over at the driver and I could see the fear in his eyes. He was desperatlly trying to regain control but he was loosing...

Now, if you would like to know how this event ends you will have to go to the next club meeting on May 12th. This is a very important meeting as it will concern our Cavalcade show and we can use all the support we can get. See you then!
