I have a 70 roadster that is mainly a driver, not a show car. The rear bumpers are pitted and either need to be replaced or re-chromed.

Anybody have any advice on which way to go? Buy a new set probably an import or have the existing pair re-chromed.

Any suggestions on companies that do this type of work at a reasonable price?

Thanks

I'd suggest getting them re-chromed.
Frankford Plating in Philadelphia. Orthodox St just off Aramingo Ave.
(near Bridge Street exit of I-95)
We've used him to chrome plate car parts and he also replated some antique furniture handles for us.

I used Frankford for most of the chrome on my 58. They did a very nice job with the chrome, but it was not cheap............ Some that use Frankford have complained about their turn around time. For me it was about 6 weeks, your mileage may vary.

I also had them polish the stainless parts of the windshield frame. Came out very nice.......

I have also used Pauls Chrome in the past with good results.

If your bumpers are original, I would suggest having them redone rather then replacing them with some new ones from China. Just beware, once you get them back and see how nice they came out, you'll want to fix up some other parts of the car and the next thing you know, the body is coming off...........

Frankford has a good rep but as mentioned, they are NOT cheap & not fast. However, this time of year would be a good time to get your original bumpers re-chromed. They re-chromed one of our '69 side pipe covers (just 1 of the 3 sections) and it came out so nice I had to have the other sections done as well. Plus I'm in Philly so it's convenient for me to get there.
