Recomnmendation of a shop familiar with C5 electiral problems

I have a '02 Z06. All summer and fall I have been struggling with what appeared to be a shifter problem. I had a difficult time getting it into 5th gear (installed a new trans in Jan of this year). Then 5th gear got easier but reverse became more difficult to engage. Finally, reverse was almost impossible. It takes two hands to force it into reverse.

The car has been at my local mechanic for a while. He does not work on many Vettes. He did diagnose a bad lockout solenoid which has been replaced. But that didn’t solve the problem.

The next attempt had something to do about “pulling the fuse block apart, cleaning it and reseating it”. I am not sure what that meant but it 100% fixed that problem. It also cleared the check engine light. The check engine light had several codes. I only recall one of them which was low or no power to the Mass Airflow sensor.

Unfortunately, that fix only lasted about 20 miles. So as of Wed night, the problem is back.

I think I need to take the car to a shop which has experience in dealing with the C5’s electrical system. Can anyone recommend someone? I am in the West Chester area.

Sadly, I am preparing this car for sale. Once these gremlins are banished, I will post the car on the for sale board.

Thanks,
pat

Pat, I would recommend Bryners Chevy in Jenkintown to trouble shoot your problems. Steve Spencer would be the tech.

Bryner is the best as is Steve Spencer. I am sure he can fix it.

215-886-3140 is their phone number.

Good Luck.

Does this car by chance have an aftermarket Short Throw shifter?

If the answer is NO, continue on with your Dec 5 appointment with Bryner.

If the answer is YES, continue reading below:

The Hurst Short Throw Shifter has "stops" (not sure if other brand shifters have these) that allow you to set the shift length (throw) for each gear change. Once the stops have been set to the desired spot they need to be set in place with Lock-Tite, otherwise they can and almost always will move. When they move they will either make the throw much longer OR much shorter, shorter to the point of it will not go far enough to allow it into the particular gear associated with that "stop".....

Pat,sorry to hear you're getting rid of your Vette.

If you have to leave the car with Steve, I just wanted to point out that the Noble
station on the West Trenton Regional Rail Line is directly behind Bryner's. I use it
when I leave my car there. You can then hook up with one of the lines heading down
to West Chester.

carboman has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Steve Spencer is the Corvette wizard. If can't fix it nobody can. I wonder if corrosion on the various chassis ground points is the cause?
