My 2014 ATS with 16,600 mi. (I bought it in Oct. 2014 at 14,000 mi.) has 3 bad tires.
Dealer said front tire defective. Back tires: one maybe driven low, maybe hit curb... A friend, tire guy, said "dry rot" but dealer said no. Is this unusual? Your comments would be appreciated. Also, should I get 4 new tires, rather than 3? |

A tire can look like it had dry rot if driven at very low tire pressure. It will cause cracking, but not dry rot. If would replace all 4 and have an alignment done. I would also make sure that I was aware of low tire pressure on the dash/ DIC. On my CTS I got 36k on the original tires, I check the tires monthly and rotate them every inspection. The original tires were Bridgestone wear rating of 240(UTQG) but I replaced the with Michelin Pilot Sports wear rating of 300 (UTQG). I have been very happy with them although they are a summer performance tire not an all weather.

It's pretty unlikely to have dry rotted tires on a 2014 vehicle.
You can check when the tires were manufactured. There is a date stamp on every tire like the one in this photo. The "3812" means this tire was manufactured in the 38th week of 2012. ![]() Also, another tidbit of almost useless information, if needed, if there happen to be bubbles on your sidewalls. Perfectly round bubbles are caused by a defective tire. Oblong bubbles are caused by road damage (potholes)

I've pumped up the tires almost immediately after the low pressure message.
I didn't kick the tires when I bought the car. Car's at the dealer, so can't check mfr. date. I'm waiting for a call back from Cadillac. |

Service manager said 2 rear tires "customer damage", therefore, not covered by warranty.
I've driven the car for properly inflated 2000 miles out of the 16600. This is lousy news. |
