Speaker recomendation!

The passenger door speaker in Arleens 98 is starting to crackle.
Any recomendations as to whether to replace them with stock Bose, or an aftermarket.

Why am I worrying about speakers at 3:53 am ?
I'm going to take my coffee, go out to the garage and polish the Harley. By the way, I'm using Mothers on the Bike!
Have a Good Day guys!

Cool Speaker

Rick, I would recommend going with the factory Bose speaker. You can get one at Contemporary Corvette fairly inexpensive. The front speakers have the amplifier built in. Using aftermarket speakers requires quite often a different head unit and amps etc. Removing the door panel and replacing the speaker is fairly simple and straightforward.

Plain Insane is correct. You must either replace your speaker with a Bose speaker, Buy a used Bose speaker or have yours rebuilt (amplifier). To use aftermarket requires a different radio.

I know Ron and Rocky at Contemporary very well. I don't want to put a used speaker in the Vette.
I'll get the part # and call my buddy at the GM warehouse and get it at his cost, which is actually cheaper than the dealer pays for it.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the info on aftermarket speakers.
Rick.

Hey Rick, one last thing... Just make sure it's not the Bose emblem rattling. A loose emblem will vibrate and sound just like a bad speaker. My 98 had that problem.

Joe is correct, turn the base up and hold the Bose emblem to see if it stops. Also if the speaker is loose inside the door it will rattle and sound like a bad speaker. Pulling the door panel is not too bad. I think that Vette Essentials website has directions on door panel removal.

I can't believe Bose has the same speakers in the C5s as the C4s. What a piece of crap those speakers are. Every 2 years with the C4 you need to pull out the player send it out to get the CD fixed and every 3 years years the amps would blow out one at at at $125 each. Really pissed me off to not have a radio in my 92 after spend $$$ and have a 1979 Nissan pull up next to me with it's radio working flawlessly.
