EGR Sensor

Question for Slapshot or whoever wants to answer.
On a 2005 Equinox the OBDII says the EGR failed. The problem seems to be intermittant. Has anyone had any experience with the EGR failing?
THANKS in advance for your help.

We are having that same problem with Pat's 2002 Chrysler Sebring.
Codes, P0401 & P0403.

I am just going to buy an new EGR valve and replace it.

FYI: EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation.
An Emissions related part.
We tried to have Chrysler fix it under the 8 years Emissions warranty but they say this part is not part of that. Yea right...

It's about $55, so I will just replace it for her.

Give one of the Steves at Bryner a call and see what they can do. Hopefully it can be covered under the emissions warranty. If not at least you'll get a good deal on the part.

Debbie, an EGR Vavle/system is an integral part of the emissions system and Should be covered under the warranty. Same for you Glenn. I can't believe they are not covering same.

I agree, but it's a struggle.

Read this, http://www.epa.gov/otaq/consumer/warr95fs.txt

Or this FAQ's on emissions: http://www.epa.gov/obd/warranties.htm#1

Glenn,

That is not cool !! Hey, I got a Cat Converter replaced by Mercedes under warranty and various other stuff but the car had a 5/50K warranty too.

So Good luck. I always thought they covered it all-I stand corrected !!

The EGR Valve sure SHOULD be covered. It certainly is an integral part of the emissions system, but they always seem to find a way out. Mine and Pat's time alike are worth too much to fight over it.
I'll buy and install the part myself.

only the cat or pcm is covered to 8yrs, 80,000 miles without any extended warr. You must have the EGR diagnosed to see what needs to be fixed just replacing the valve may not fix it. It could be wiring, programming etc.

Thanks for all the infomative responses guys. I have learned a lot from this.
Car was in for service in October. They found nothing. The OBDII resets the code and the light goes off. Now, 4 months later light goes back on again.
This is a REAL PAIN !
