My C5 just got flat-bedded to Bryner this afternoon. ;sm
Out of the blue, I started the car, drove it less than 1 mile and the DIC started firing messages at me faster than I could read them all. The ones I did see were "Service Active Handling", "Service Traction Control", & "Reduced Engine Power" then the car just died. After 5 minutes, it started again and I got it back to a safe place and we had it flat-bedded to Bryner.
Dam I was sick seeing that.
I talked to Steve Fisher, he knows it's on it's way down and they'll hand it over to Spencer tomorrow.
Anyone every experience this on a C5??
Dam this makes me sick.
I had this happen only one time but it was obvious the car was overheating. My thermostat was stuck closed.

Glenn, the only time I have seen messages like that was after programming the computer with the Hypertech. Strangely enough, whenever I programmed BACK to stock, the car would not run for more than 2 seconds until I reconnected the Hypertech, let it identify my PCM as stock, and then unplug it again. Nobody knows why that common problem existed and it wasn't listed in the book. The first time it happened it scared me half to death thinking it killed my PCM. I'm hoping they actually find something wrong with your car or you'll never have peace of mind. Good luck and keep us posted.
I bet $50 its the GM A/C DELCO battery.
TOLD YA TO GET THE OPTIMA!!!!!
Glenn, let me know if you need a lift to Bryner's.

Thanks for that offer Richy! I appreciate it, but I'll be fine!!
I had that happen once on my 00' convertible, I disconnected the battery for 5 minutes and never had the problem again

I did attempt that before calling the flat bed. The ENGINE light was still on.
Did you try resetting the codes after reconnecting your battery before starting? I forgot to put that in my first post
Did you write down any of the codes? We could look them up in the service manual and maybe narrow down the issue.
I had a problem where the car went into 'reduced engine power' which bought me a maximum speed of 5 MPH if it even started at all. After sitting idle for a few days, it started and ran normal speed and I drove it directly to Bryner without passing 'go'.
It turned out to be related to a damn emissions control A.I.R. sensor. I think the code was P1415 or P1416. What a PITA. I was doing 5 MPH on Bristol Road in Warminster on the day it failed me. I was not a popular person that day trying to get it home. There is nowhere good to pull over along that road.

I did NOT try that! I am not even sure how. I think you have to hold the Options button then hit Fuel 4 times to get there. Not real sure of that. I'll let Bryner figure it out for me.
Thanks for the tips though! I'll let you all know how I make out.

Hi Glenn,
Had this happen once, disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes and everything cleared and haven't had the problem since. I got this solution in a quick phone call with Steve Spencer.
Hope everything is OK. I feel your pain! I remeber being haued off with deer fur imbedded in the windshield. That was ughly.
Let us know what happens.
Whoa AL!!!!!!!!!!
WHEN did THAT happen?!!!!!

Glenn:
Sorry to hear about your baby. Hopefully it's nothing more than a minor adjustment. You'll be up and running real soon. ;bt
Yo El, you owe Glenn $50.00, get it up ;bl

Thanks Neil!
By the way, I thought I had heard that incident with Al's car happened on the way to E-Town or maybe on the way home from E-Town one day.
Forget it, Glenn owes ME!
Steve told me it was the battery!

You're full of crap too dude! :D
Like I said, wanna bet?
The lously red top you got lost its charge, and the pcm lost communication with the bcm during the low voltage stage, hence the codes & limp mode.
Your battery had a bad cell, or cannot hold & maintain a steady 12v....
Probably fried the pcm or bcm as well...
I'd say you're looking at about $1,200 -$1,400.00
And this will NOT be covered since your aftermarket battery was the culprit...
You'll see............
Or it could be the muffler bearing ;hw ;hw

Yes but only is the left inner muffler bearing is bad... :D :) :D

This happened on the way to E-town for the corvette challenge on October 6, 2001. I was runner up at the previous race. Can you tell its BURNED into my brain?
Believe it or not I am still finding small shards of glass from the windield in the glove box and in the air vents 2.5 years later.
Were you able to at least stage? :D ;)

I was waiting for Al at ETown, he never showed. I was just going to spectate but ended up running on my street tires, BFG Runflats, and I had to dial in at 14.00 cause I didn't haave the hardtop on. I ended up red lighting so I ran it out for a low 13.** I got a call from Al, he said a deer jumped out from a field and WHAM. This happened @ 12:00-12:30 in the afternoon. Alans Collision did a heck of a job.;bt

El,this is a scary scenario.I can't believe that a possible failure mode with a bad battery is a wreck of the electronics?????

We have all had weird things happen with our electronics, I had the check engine, reduced power etc. once. I disconected the battery and re-started it and that was over two years ago and no new codes... I did notice that the neg was not as tight as the pos. Glenn don't worry till you know for sure what it is.
Whatever it is, thats what he gets for adding those ricer stick on fiberglass mods to a great looking car..... ;nn ;se
Serves him right.......;yn

I remember someone had Speed Racer trapped under their hood. ;cs ;cs ;nnn
Yep, old Evil EL here as my kids call me... haha...
FYI:
Speed Racer has been set free Carl...
He's no longer under my hood, but is nicely tucked away under a blanket in my shop...
Anyway, just as I suspected, shorted wires in PCM connector caused by low voltage occurance....
That'll be $1,200.00 Glenn......
El,I find that hard to believe.I'd like some more details.
Ask Glenn, he'll tell ya...
Shorted wires in the connector.....;yn
Glenn...
In all seriousness, its probably a minor electrical glitch.
Sometimes even the most minor thing can cause a major problem, but easily resolved... Don't sweat it!

You are wrong, it was a bad Throttle Position Sensor
A faulty TPS IS a common & minor electrical item.....;yn
