Philadelphia feels a little smaller with the passing of boxing legend "Smokin' Joe Frazier.

Those who knew him say he led a life of dignity and giving. His north Philadelphia gym is gone, but his memory lives on. It's been some time since Frazier was part of our consciousness and there are lots of YouTube tributes to rekindle those days when Smokin' Joe was on top of the world. He truly deserves a statue in Philadelphia.

Frazier's body lies in state at the Wells Fargo Center and today marks the first of two days of viewings.

Sadly, I never had the opportunity to meet Frazier but I'm planning to pay my respects. The funeral is set for Monday and reports say Muhammad Ali will be in attendance.

RIP Smokin Joe..
Fixed the A/C in his gym, his office, and his house.
He allowed me in to stay in the office at the big press conference with Ali & Foreman after everyone else was kicked out!! He recognized me in Atlantic City and got me & Donna into a paparazzi shot with him!

RIP Joe

Back in the early 70’s when I was running a Medical Center in North Philly, I had the pleasure of meeting Joe Frasier. He was a patient at my office for about a year. I can still remember the first time I tried to take his Blood Pressure his arm was so big the cuff did not fit. I had to order a special one just for him. He was such a down to earth person. He never thought he deserved any special treatment and was always patient and pleasant.

I am glad he was a part of my life for a short time. Because of him I had a different view of boxers.

I also got to meet and treat Rubin Hurricane Carter, Joe referred him to my office for treatment.
