DTC B0164 Code on C6 Vette

Has anyone else had this issue with their C6 Corvette? It is either a bad climate control module or the passenger side temperature sensor is bad. Any comments from anyone?

Curious how you got a readout of the code?

The Vette Shop (Sean) did it for me.

Sean had the scanner for the codes. The give away that there was a problem, was that the automatic climate control was very sporadic. On hot days the automatic climate control would turn the AC on at maximum fan speed for about 30 seconds then drop the speed way down for about 10 seconds and then go back to max speed again for assorted intervals. There was no logic behind how it was cooling the cabin on hot days. The system works fine under manual mode. However the automatic mode for the climate control is the main issue. The car will be going back to a Chevy dealer to further define if it is a ambient temperature sensor problem (the whole dash cluster needs to be removed for this $13.00 part); or if it is the climate control module itself ($600.00 part). Make sure that Chevy dealer is Bryner! Spence is the only guy you want working on your car.

Thanks for the details on who to use in the future. Since Thompson BMW is picking up the tab on the repair, I have the car going into Fred Beans Chevrolet. It's never an issue when someone else is picking up the cost of the repair.

Turned out to be the passenger side temperature sensor. $119.00 part and $205.00 in labor. $100. for confirming the scan codes from the outside shop and another $100. in labor to replace the sensor. It's still a mystery on how to get at that sensor and replace it? If anyone can shed some light on that answer...please do so. It will help other C6 owners with the similar problem.

It's still a mystery on how to get at that sensor and replace it? If anyone can shed some light on that answer...please do so. It will help other C6 owners with the similar problem.

Are you saying it's still a mystery to the dealer service? The service manuals should show what to do...

The dealer changed the sensor out and all is fine now. But he did not tell me if he had to take the dash cluster apart in order to change the sensor out. Unfortunately the dealer keeps some of these things a mystery. Perhaps it is in the duct? But I can't find it. Maybe Spence at Bryner can tell you. This might be a do it yourself project.

Ah, ok, misunderstood. If you're a DIYer then investing in a set of service manuals for your model year is money well spent. Mine paid for themselves just doing a stereo install, knew where everything was and how to get at it.
