Congrats on the trophy Norm, your car and the effort you put into it deserve it!
A good first step would be to have him sign up for the forum here so we can chat it out with him. There are a number of good groups out there with some good instruction, but nothing I've seen outside of a school that gets to the level of what we got at VIR. That said you can learn a lot in novice groups doing lead-follow sessions and the accompanying classroom sessions. The Autocross & Roadracing section at Corvette Forum has a ton of good info too but it might be overwhelming to someone that has no experience at all.
Get him to post here and we'll get him hooked! ;bl

There are a few good groups around that do HPDE's in our area. The NCM @ VIR event is tops by a long shot, but from my experiences I think Hooked on Driving is the best after the NCM @ VIR. They have good instructors, run a safe event, have decent classroom instructions and good instructors. They also always take a 60-90 mid day break and offer a nice lunch for the drivers and staff...

There is also Sports Car Driving Association

.and National Auto Sport Association / PDA

I have also run with SCCA but they don't seem to do HPDE's in this area any longer. They were terrific but I haven't done one with them in about 5 years.
Those above are the groups I have run with but there are more. I also ran with Track Time 4 Cars (http://www.tracktime4cars.com/tpm.php) but I would not suggest them for a first timer at all.
As Dan said, get the fellow to sign in here and we'll talk to him about it and maybe even get together with him at NJMP for a track day. It's much easier to take in your first track day if going with a few other drivers to help out.

Paranoia check, I am compulsive about trying not leave things assumed... he can join this CCDV forum without joining CCDV itself, and that's what I was suggesting.
