View Full Version : Trouble shutting ignition off
This has happened to me twice recently,,I have an 08 btw. After shutting my car down and getting out I noticed the green light around the start button wasn't going out. I got back in and shut it off again, at which time the red light on the button went on, but after getting out and closing the door the green ignition button glowed again. I cycled thru this many times wondering why it was happening but it always did the same thing. Looking at my car and trying to figure out what to do I noticed the rear hatch didn't appear to be all the way closed even thou it was latched (I had put something in the rear at a store earlier) I opened and closed the hatch and presto everything was OK. Today I cleaned my cars interior and after putting it back in the garage the same thing happened. Now we were out earlier and again I had to put something in the hatch area, so I figured it was the same problem but after opening and closing the rear lid several times it still wouldn't go off. At this point and after reading the owners manual I called Steve at Bryners and explained the problem but the best he could do was get me in next Tuesday and he told me to just disconnect the battery til then. Well I when I went to disconnect the battery I saw it was a bit different then any other car I've owned and not wanting to break anything I managed to get ahold of Steve again and asked if he could tell me exactly how to get the terminal off. He said he talked to someone else and he asked me if the interior lights also stay on after I shut the door. I told him they do (we all know there supposed to stay on for a short time). He said that the interior override switch to the left of the steering column may have been accidently pushed on and suggested that I try to reset that. Well it worked,,I must have accidently pressed the button when I was cleaning the dash but to tell you the truth I don't remember doing it. Anyway if you run into the same problem be aware of it. While I have your attention, other then taking the nut off the battery terminal there's what looks like a locking device that has to be removed before you can actually take the cable off. Does anyone know how to do this, or do you just pry up the whole cable and that will come with it. Thanks guys.
So could someone tell me if its just a matter of removing the nut and then twisting the cable off???

Are you referring to the black plastic cover over the negative terminal? If so, it should come off when you pull the negative cable off the battery terminal. Once the nut is sufficiently loose twist the cable slightly then simply pull it off the terminal. Going back on be careful not to over tighten the nut. The spec is 88 inch pounds.
Jacques,,I'm referring to the cable itself,,under the nut there's what appears to be an elongated washer with a "hook" on one end (for lack of a better description) and I didn't know if I had to remove that before attempting to remove the cable itself. Thanks,,,sorry for the description of what I'm trying to say,,,but if you look at yours you'll see what I'm referring to.

Bring the car, new battery and a fresh 9v battery to me and I'll install it. The 9v batt is for the memory saver I have that plugs in the cig lighter.
Heres what I'm talking about.

Under the nut there's that elongated "washer" thats notched on the end and has the "hook" thru it. My question is,,does that have to come off before I can pull the cable. Although I didn't have to remove the cable it appears that this would have to be removed first. Carbo,,I don't need a new battery or anything,,this is just for my own knowledge if I have to remove it in the future but thank you for your offer

Slightly loosen the nut and you can wiggle the clamp off the terminal. That's it.
I actually took the nut off but it didn't seem like I could take the cable off without doing something else, however I didn't wiggle it or anything to see if it was loose enough. Now I know for the future,,thanks.

I'll probably regret this but..... Why would you fool around with this if there's no need for a repair? I learned how to replace a clutch years ago but I didn't do it by taking one apart that was working perfectly.

When he reconnects the battery, the next post will be, "My window Indexing no longer works, what gives?" ;)
Yesterday when I thought I had the original problem I managed to get ahold of Steve at Bryners and he told me to disconnect the battery until he could see the car ,which wouldn't be til next week. I was asking at this point about the battery in case it would ever come up in the future that i would have to disconnect it. BTW Glenn I know about ther indexing.
