2005 - 2007 CORVETTE
2005 - 2006 CORVETTE Z06

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 09V491000

Summary: GM is recalling certain model years Corvettes equipped with a removable roof, as well as certain Z06's. The adhesive between the roof panel and the frame may separate. If there is a partial separation, the driver may notice one or more symptoms, such as a snapping noise when driving over bumps, wind noise, poor roof panel fit, roof panel movement / bounce when a door or hatch is closed, or a water leak in the headliner.

Consequence: If there is a complete separation, the roof panel may detach from the vehicle. If this were to occur while the vehicle was being driven, it could strike a following vehicle and caus injury and/or property damage.

Remedy: Dealers will install a new design roof panel free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during January 2010. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 800-630-2438, or at www.GMownerCENTER.com

Notes: GM SAFETY RECALL NO. 090230. OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV

Thanks. I've seen the posts on CF and on a news report. The fix that they implemented two years ago (foam fill) apparently didn't solve the problem. I guess I get a new roof panel now. Hopefully they can color match it properly.

It will be interesting to see if they can match mine to the rest of the car. Hopefully it will be an improvement over the factory's crappy paint match.

Figures, I just had Steve fix the creaking problem with the handles, now this. I didn't realize the flying roof was so wide spread. Anyone know if this is for all vehicles or only certain VINs?

I had a new roof installed, mine was doing all kinds of creaking, they also did the new handle install. Bryner did a great job matching the paint.

I had the roof re-epoxied and then the last time there the removal handles fixed at Bryner's. I suppose it's fixed since I don't get the squeaking & popping noises, at least for the last time I drove the car....in early November. Guess I should have bought a "Z".. .no squeaks , no rattles, plus 105 more horsies & 40 grand. ;at Wonder if it'd be paid off by 2020????

The Z06 was not immune. They also had flying roof syndrome.

Mine was repaired under he first TSB (with the squirt in glue) and the new handles. Looks like they'll be replacing it with a new panel/frame assembly and transfer the mounting hardware from the existing roof panel.

I KNOW the Z06 is not immune to this problem, BUT if GM's remedy is as they say "Remedy: Dealers will install a new design roof panel free of charge. Then what will they do for the 2006 Z06 owners??? ;)

I expect that they will put on a new roof panel with the correct adhesive. Since the panels are secured to the roof bow and headliner during assembly I imagine that they can be removed and replaced if necessary. Just takes a bit more time than a coupe.

Let us know what happens.

I actually wanted the clear roof....but hesitated to order it. Called Mike Peterson at Bryners about 3 days after I placed the C6 order & he said it was too late. Would that have been any better???

No problems with the clear roofs, only the painted ones. Maybe you can get a clear roof in place of a new painted one.
