Ton, remember the other night we had our cars next to each other and noticed your low beams were brighter than my one remaining low beam? Well, I've been doing some research and think I know why that is.
See, as a vehicle gets closer to the speed of light it becomes increasingly difficult for emitted light to be visible by stationary objects. GM apparently has factored this phenomenon into the BCM programming and commands the lighting system to increase voltage. I feel it's this strain on the system that lead to the premature failure of the lighting in my car. It also explains why your cars lights are as bright as the day you bought it..., You know, it being slower and all.

Joe,thank you for the lesson in general relativity. To think that I misunderstood it all these
years is really depressing.

When I toured the plant a couple years ago I am pretty sure I remember them talking about this type of BCM programming to cars ordered with RPO code 74U. My car's lights also seem to be dimmer than most.. ;)

Wow, that's a long time, the depression must be unbearable. :D

Joe, I believe your problem stems from the lack of an underhood light in your car. As your car approaches the SoL the underhood light is suppose to drain off some of that excess energy. Since you have no underhood light, that increase in power has affected the lighting system in a negative way, and although my car is indeed slower at least I can see where I'm going. ;bl
On a serious note did you find anything out about the lights?

So far, I found out the stock low beam HID's are expensive,... that bulbs aren't covered under warranty,... that you have to remove the front wheels and inner fender panel to access the headlights,... and that it isn't a bulb problem. But I did get an appointment with Spence for this Thursday and hopefully he'll also solve the 'shift to park' error (aka Taco Bell Hell).
