Nick I put a Kirban in my car and I can put one in your car, as I've done for two other members in the past. There is an MGW which if you want, I guess can probably be installed as easily as the Kirban, Bob

MGW is one brand. Kirban also makes a great shifter.

I had a Hurst in my C5 and it was a great shifter. It had screws to adjust the length of the throw. These adjustments sound like a good idea BUT if the adjusting screws decided to back themselves out, they could actaully make the shifter inoperable. NEver happened to me but I had heard others say it happened to them. I made sure it didn't happen to me by using Locktite on the adjusting screws once I found the adjustments that suited my driving style.

The install of the shitfter is very easy. I would guess ANY brand shifter in a C5 is a simple install. Installation procedures usually show removing the center console but this is NOT necessary

The hard part of the install is removing the demon wedge on the stock shift knob :D I also have Kirban but the others mentioned are also equal in craftsmanship.

I had my stock shifter cut down and am quite pleased with it.

Glenn, Have you considered a after market shifter in your Z?

Thank you guys for your suggestions-- I'm enjoying the search-- I've had my c-5 for two years now and driven it 8,000 miles-- two times on a race track-- and I still miss gears and am not always sure what gear I'm in--- Nick

Nick, I had a Kirban in my C5 and I know that a Hurst is also a good choice. I ran my C5 more than a few times (104 times to be exact) & the Kirban served me well. If you need any help, give me a buzz. Don't listen to any jamokes that didn't have a Kirban, Hurst & a B&M. They don't know what they are talking about and are just clouding the issue. ;yn

I have used 2 MGW shifter in both my C5 and C6. If you drive a car with an MGW, your mine will be made up. Their web site is http://www.mgwltd.com/corvette.shtml.
The shifts are short and tight, very hard to miss a shift. No rattle or noise from shifter.

I had B&M, Kirban, Lingenfelter and Hurst to name a few in my C5's, I liked Hurst the best, it for me offered the smoothest operation, and made the least amount of noise. All are better than stock.
