Joe (C5pilot) just called and said the new C-6 is at the show in the new orange. Joe said that the lines are sharp and that you can tell the car is shorter with a longer wheel base. Guess I'll go next week.. I like to go when the show opens at 12 PM ..No one is there during the week... Bill

Hey Guys,
Just got back from the show. I was down there w/ Henry Weikel. We were down there just after the gates opened, and we all met at the new C-6. Don, Louann,& Jason Lemek were the 1st paying customers to see the C-6. When Henry & I arrived Al & Tina Stout were also arriving. Everyone we spoke to liked the new style. The new Vette has to be seen in person to really appreciate it. The magazine photos are ok, but nothing beats seeing it up close.
I'm headed down there tomorrow w/ the wife to see it again. I hope to see some of you there tomorrow. (Bright & Early!!)

I like the lines on the 06, but am having a difficult time appreciating the head lights. After seeing them in person are they something only a mother could love???

Well Norm, the headlights are something that have been a disapointment to me too, BUT they are starting to grow on me. I didn't like it last year when Acura did the same thing to that gorgeous NSX, but they have grown on me too. The rear end of the C6 is the part that really upsets me with all the "Avalanche type" plastic on the lower rear facia and the 3rd brake light surround.
Anyway, below is the one that REALLY had my heart pounding today at the show. :D :D :D

Beautiful car for 600K!!!! oil change is almost 3K!!!! 250K for a new motor.... Nice dream though.... Glenn I feel the same way about the rear... looks cheap??

Well, when I told Bill the lines were "sharp", I meant as in "pointy". It's going to take time for the C6 to grow on me. The C5 had/has curvy sexy lines which they sculpted and chiseled into pointy edges. To me, it looks as though GM was trying to re-engineer a C5 using connect-the-dots technology. But I'm certain some will love it just the same. I mean 400HP is nothing to point your noise up at. ;)
For those who are in the market, they said they expect the base price to be very close to the current price. Nothing is set in stone obviously, but we'll see. The convertible is expected to show up about 3 months after the coupe. There was no comment on a new Z06 version.
BTW, I think that color is called Daytona Sunset Orange.

I LIKE IT! ;ae ;bt
The color is GREAT.
The headlights will take a little getting used too, but the plastic around the third Brakelight would have to go. What were they thinking in the design studio.
Of course everyone is going to have their own opinions

I forgot to ask a very important question:
How do you pop the hood on a C6 with a dead battery? If the remote is not functioning (either malfunctioning or the car battery is dead), there is no way to enter or start the car! I guess Rick will never own one.

Come on Joe.
GIMME A BREAK!
Thats just what I need, a Car that you can't get into if the battery goes dead. Makes sense to me ;tt

My point exactly (I knew you'd get a kick out of that). ;)
I would hope they thought of a work-around, but I haven't seen it yet. The doors have NO keyholes, so... How does one enter the car without a working remote?

Joe is there a door button inside where the door handle is???? I remember the Cad. guy reaching inside to open the door last year at the show.

Joe, this goes along with what you mentioned above.
I saw the C6 at the Philadelphia Auto Show, Saturday 1/31/04. We arrived at 9:00am sharp as the show opened. Pat & I were among the first to walk up to the C6 and it was sitting there with the targa top off and windows down. I snapped a few pictures and then asked the pretty girl that was with the car if she'd open the door so I could snap a few interior pics.
Well, she couldn't do that because someone was still trying to locate the key fob somewhere in the building. There are no key cylinders in the C6 on EITHER side, so without the key fob, you're not getting in. No big deal right?
Here's the good part.
When the person finally did come along with the key and key fob they were still out of luck. Something they probably have been doing with the C5's after 8 years of Auto shows, the battery was disconnected in the C6.
Luckily, the top was off and the windows were down so they could reach way down inside and pull the hood release.
Now what if........................yea, yea, You can finish the rest of this story with your own imagination........

Check out this Enzio Ferrai, sure looks like Accura designers know a good thing when they see it.

OOPS? After looking a little closer I see that was a Ferrai at first glance I thought that was a Accura knockoff. Better get my glasses checked. ;faz

After looking at these latest pics I think overall the C6 looks pretty good. However, ;tt I can see that plastic in the back being a real PITA to keep wax off of is and discoloring it. ;yn I do like the fact that inside the head lights are painted in the same color as the car. ;n But, how will you open the car when your battery goes?;tt Remember how I couldn't get the coupe door to release... I hope they have a better system than those dumb wires...

Mike, I had asked the same thing last night after seeing the C6 Saturday and got some answers last night on that.
They have put a key cylinder located above the license plate (out of view, it faces upwards) and you can then in an emergeny get into the car. Then a door opening lever located near the drivers door/seat area.

Strange setup if you ask me, but then again, these C6's we're all seeing are actually pre production models and things could change. ie: Front facia to enable the use of a front license plate. :D

 That door release lever looks like an afterthought at best. So basically they're asking a bunch of people (many in their later years) to climb into that mile-high trunk, crawl between the bucket seats, do a headstand, and pull that lever. Geez, those guys will think of ANYTHING to get people to tow their cars to the dealer for service.
Bill Burkholder
02-02-04, 11:30 AM
Joe I don't think that you will have to climb in the back....A small hammer will be provided in the hatch area, so you can break the glass on the drivers door.... reach down then pull the door latch :D :D :D You just gota love the general!!!!!

Or you can carry a rock & slim-jim on your key ring!

I spoke to a GM rep. They told me that in the trunk is a wire release like the hatch and trunk cars now have, to unlock the drivers door on the C-6. A special key to only open the trunk will be provided. This key will not start the car that must be done by the "start key" (fob).
Mike Campbell
02-09-04, 04:01 PM
Well, that sounds alittle more sensible. I know about crawling thru there and it was a bear! ;yn However, to have an extra key just to open the back sounds like they at least thought about the problem. We ALL know, batteries wear out....;yn;yn
Another thing, not that I care, but for our Jersey buddies, where the heck do you mount the front liscense plate????;tt
Bill Burkholder
02-09-04, 04:39 PM
The C-6 at the show is NOT a final production car. "Those issues will be addressed".
C5pilot
02-09-04, 07:52 PM
But don't we have to wonder WHY all the nonsense about a "special key", "release wire", "hidden tumbler"... Just put a freakin tumbler on the driver door where it belongs!
And with the money you just saved how about adding another "usable" cup holder or maybe some map pockets. Sometimes I wonder if automobile "engineers" take the bus to work everyday.
Bill Burkholder

C-6 will have door pockets, storage. but it would be nice to have a map pocket in the back of the passenger seat.
Mike Campbell
02-10-04, 09:39 AM
Yea, that's for sure. Right now, anything behind the seat all gets wedged down at the bottom. Could map pockets be that expensive?? Plus, is the consol (which presently only will hold a pair of socks) made any larger??
Bill Burkholder
02-10-04, 11:55 AM
I know that the console will be large enough to store several CD's but that still isn't very large. The glove box is just too far away for the average person to use.
