I have a DVD recorder that is a few months old. The write speed was 2.4X for all DVD/R drives up to now. There is now a new blank DVD on the market designed only for the newest 4X recorders - the older 2.4X recorders can not handle the new blank disks unless you upgrade the firmware on your disk drive.

The upgrades to your firmware can be found at this site:
www.dvdrwservices.com
Just select the type recorder you have and you will be directed to the manufacturers web sites to get your upgrades. I have an HP 200i DVD and the process worked without a hitch. I was lucky to spot this on a package of DVDs or I would have been pulling my hair out.

Just rememer the faster you burn on dvd's the less the dvd movies will work on your dvd player. Not many 4x dvd-+r's work on movie dvd players. But just for dvd data backup its great :D

I have one of those new Sony DVD-+RW drives so I can handle bot the - and the + dvd-rw's.

This does not enable your machine to burn faster, only to use the new format. This does not have any affect on player compatibility.

Yes it does. I have tested this out and unfortunatly the faster you burn the dvd's the less they work in the older dvd players.

This software does not enable a 2.4X to burn at 4X, it only enables using the new disks.

Sorry about my stupidity. I wanst reading into the post. What I read was that it enabled you old burner to burn at 4x speeds and not what it really says that it allows your old burner to burn the new discs without any hassle but still at the 2.4x speeds.

It's been 2 crazy weeks for me. :D
