I am in process of replacing the gas tank in my 72 coupe. I dropped the tank and looking at driver's side of tankon the side almost at the top is a little black thing with two rubber hoses. One going to the tank, and the other going down to a hard line that goes along frame probably to the front somewhere. Is this the vent and black thing is maybe a charcoal filter or what. While I have the tank down I should replace it, but what is it. HELP HELP HELP Thanks

You are correct, it's the evap filter line / charcoal filter. War Bonnet has a perfect 72. Take a look at his car and you'll see how all the lines are routed.

I had to replace that on mine...it's a ball valve. The filter is in the front of ther car and if the valve goes bad your filter will fill with gas and then start leaking all over (if you have a full tank, like I did when it went bad)
