I've been asked to write some more directions to help users who are having trouoble logging in or accessing the gascap. I'll be writing a new FAQ and adding it to the help section
http://www.ccdv.com/forum/misc.php?s=&action=faq

I'll be using these posts as well

I sent out directions in the different emails this month, but now they will be permantly int he FAQ and I'll be able to just point to the URL.

let me know if there are any other good posts with directions

Here is some more info, I'll be using.
----------------------------------------------------

AOL Users: You connect to the internet using AOL and your browser is based on Internet Explorer. They are seperate though and AOL can't do everything exactly like Internet Explorer can. What I reccomend is to connect using AOL as usual and then minimize it. Open Internet Explorer and browse the site using that.

If you are a member & having login problems

Clear your cookies: on your desktop should be a blue 'e' icon form Microsoft Internet Explorer. Right click on in (push in the right mouse button) and from the popup menu choose 'properties'. The 'Internet Properties' window will open. Click the 'Delete Cookies' button. Clearing your cookies will get rid of any old or damaged CCDV.com cookies and you'll be forced to log back into the site and create a new clean cookie.

Allow CCDV.com to save cookies: You may have security turned up too high on your computer to allow CCDV.com to find out who you are. On your desktop should be a blue 'e' icon form Microsoft Internet Explorer. Right click on in (push in the right mouse button) and from the popup menu choose 'Properties'. The 'Internet Properties' window will open. Click the "Privacy" tab, then click the "Edit" button. Enter "http://www.ccdv.com" and click the "Allow" button.

Login Correctly: You may be entering your name and password incorrectly. They are case sensitive so lower case 'a' isn't the same as upper case 'A'. Go to the login page and enter your information.

When the form submits you should see a message that reads "Thank you for logging in, YOUR USERNAME." If you don't see that message, you've entered your information incorrectly.

You shouldn't have to login from that computer again. The site should remember who you are. When you return to the homepage there should be a message "Welcome Back YOUR USERNAME" If it's not there, then the site doesn't remember you. Follow the above direction "Allow CCDV.com to save cookies" and then go to the "Edit Options" page of your "User Control Panel".

Make sure that "Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies)" and
"Browse board with cookies?" are both set to "Yes" and then click the "Submit Modifications" button. Close all of your browser windows and then return to the site and login. Hopefully, your cookie will be set correctly this tiem and you won't have to login in the future. If you use a different web browser or a different computer, you will have to login again, but only once for each machine/browser.

If you are a member who is able to login

Enter your Info: Go into your "User control Panel" and enter all of your information in the "Additional Information" fields and click "Submit Modifications" button when finished. This lets other club members know who you really are.

If you are a Club member who is able to login and post but can't get the Gascap, then the site doesn't know that you are a club member. Look at one of your posts and look for your site status. (it's under your username) It should read "CCDV Club Member". If it says "Jr Member" or "Member", then your account isn't setup correctly. Make sure that you've followed the directions above in "Enter your Info" and then use this form and email me.

Tell me to upgrade your account. Tell me who you are and that you are a club member. Once I can verify the information, I'll upgrade your account. Most of the time when i recieve these emails they are incomplete. People will use a different email address than they use at the site or forget to tell me their screen name or real name and I can't verify who they are. It's very important that you use the form instead of just emailing me so I have you site screen name and email address used at the site. If I dont' have all of the information I need, your accoutn will not be upgraded.

I will also add a section for people who can download the gascap, but can't read it.

I am going to re-write the login code so that it give different messages depending on why you are being asked to login. Right now we have 2 different messages.

I changed the login messgaes again and made them as clear as I could. I've also changed some of the member messages, and the form used to let me know you are a club member.

I've tested the login forms and verified that they are working correctly. I've also added messages which remind user who are not logged in, that they should do so.

We corrently can use the who's online page to list all of the club members, but I will be making a text only version which can be used to for administration purposes.
