For all you Z06 FRC/Hardtop owners and coupe & vert owners, I'm just curious on how everyone here feels about moving over and making room for the new C6 Z06 in 2006. Will we be slowly fading out like the ZR1 and be only a select few who are dedicated to the Z06? Do you feel part of a cult with the Z06 like the ZR1 and L88 owners do? What do you feel about a site dedicated to only specialty Corvettes, or maybe just the Z series Vettes?

As far as the next generation Z06, from what I read, Dave Hill said that there would be a significant change in the 2006 Z06, where you would be able to really tell the difference between the C6 coupe and the Z06, not like with the C5 Z06 and coupe now, and like the C4's and ZR1 's.

According to the pics, the new C6, in my opinion is starting to resemble the Viper. There are some points on the C6 that have a flair of Viper styling. Especially the way it looks from the front. I think we all know where the Vette is headed and who is being challenged, and I feel GM is doing it slowly and keeping costs down that way. I feel the C6 Z06 will definitely give the Viper a run for its money in styling, horsepower and competition, and they'll make it much more affordable to us then the Viper would be, and of course generate more sales for themselves.

Last but not least, there have been rumors that the Z06 will stablilize in price the way the ZR1's did. For example, a '90-'91 ZR1 with around 6,000 miles in mint condition is being sold now between $34-$36K, and will not dip below that price. Naturally price will vary according to condition and mileage of car, but to buy a good clean ZR1, you be looking at $34,000 range and over, and it will increase in years to come. A lot of people that I've talked to say that the Z06 won't be far behind it in price, and because, there are only a little over 22,000 made, without knowing the production numbers yet for '04, it will be a natural choice for people who can't get a hold of a ZR1 anymore, or afford the new C6 Z. The ZR1, even though less were made, were a five yr run. The Z06 is only a four year run. Plus the Z06 is pretty comparable to the ZR1 in performance. Parts will also be much more available. So I do see the Z06 not dropping in price so quickly and maybe not dropping at all, but stabilizing in price earlier then the ZR1 did. And, if the C6 Z06 comes in at around $60 or $65K, people will turn more to the ZR1 and C5 Z06. This is just conjectures of course, and I was curious as to how all of you feel about it.

I am kind of at a loss what to do...I was/am planning to put an intercooler on my supercharger, LPE signature HRE wheels and 345's on my C5 this winter... Now that I am hearing that GM may be comming out with a 600 hp Vette two years from now...I am wondering if I shouldn't just cool my heels, sit back and wait???

Norm,I faced a similar dilemma with my '02 Z06,i.e.,should I
put on the blower or wait 2 years for the new Z? My decision was
based on the belief that "life is short & unpredictable" and that "life is not a rehearsal".I went for the ATI & I love the performance. In this age of rapidly changing hi-tech,we are constantly faced with these kinds of decisions,i.e.,should I replace
my old PC,digital camera, etc. now or wait till next year for the latest & greatest?
My advice is do the mods now.

I agree 100% with Richy. Life is too short and unpredictable not to go for it now, if you can afford it, rather than waiting for who knows what! ;yn ;yn Pewtie will be 5 on the 28th. If I had waited till I could afford a Corvette, or if until GM came out with a high performance ZO6 I would have never never been able to get one. Keep in mind all that's happened in the last 5 years...:( And, as for Larry's comment, I think the ZO6 will become a special following, just like the ZR1's are.....although I don't think they'll be able to demand as much money as the ZR1's do. I know that Nancy & I discuss this philosopy alot. I know that you should not mortgage your future, but, especially after 9/11, who knows if there is a future?? ;tt;tt I say, "Go for it now!!" ;bt

I know how short life can be ...that being said, enjoy your car TODAY, dont't think about 2006 and 600 hp. In 2006 get your 600 hp car but till then drive , enjoy and smile every chance you get. Life is to short for the what "if's" in the future.....

As long as there is nothing wrong with my 99 that forces me to look at a new car, then I see no need to get an 05.

Maybe in 2010 I can get an 05 and if I don't make to 2010 then I won't but I would have enjoyed every minute of my 99

You all got it right! DO IT NOW!! and if you're around later, still healthy and can afford it, do it again!! If you keep putting off until tomorrow, tomorrow may never come! Enjoy life while you can. Life is too short to procrastinate!
I used to wonder how to live for today & put away something for tomorrow. I don't worry so much anymore about tomorrow. I tell Brian to do well at college & get a good job when he graduates because we're spending his inheritance NOW !! (but I'm sure he knows were kidding & he'll probably be set for life)

The current Z06 with it's production of over 22,000 won't be classified as rare but it's performance its something that may keep it's resale price higher than the standard Vettes of the C5 model. It is a great car and it out performs the "King of the Hill" in just about all categories(I love the look of the ZR1). We now have a car, the C6, that is going to have 5 less HP than a stock C5 Z06 and in the right hands should be able to keep up with them. As for the C6 Z06 we'll have to wait and see what it will offer and the going price. As you very well know:"Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?"

I'm with you Tony. A new C6 coupe with a stock LS-2 engine at 400HP, with the right bolt-on mods (no internal mods) and the proper tuning should generate close to 450HP at the crank.
That should be enough to keep me near the low 12's, assuming I know what I am doing by then.
So far, from what I have seen, I like the appearance of the C6, and would be interested in following the progress of it's development into the second year of production (I never touch anything the first year).
Anybody else have more thoughts about this?
