Philadelphia International Auto Show at the Convention Center 1/31/04 - 2/08/04. Was the CCDV invited to paticipate this year? Only a few weeks away, hoping to hear some news soon. Their web site is on-line http://www.phillyautoshow.com/home.asp

In a word "No".

I guess that means no free tickets for us this year!

Well that's a shame, but, we may go on Saturday anyway. ;yn There's always some new stuff to see and Nancy & I awlways have a nice time walking around.
Guess that guy with all those "conversion vans" got his wish huh?;gm

I think that the van guy was the final straw for us. In other years the Rousch Mustang and KIA, were upset that we didn't pay for our space and it was a distraction to their product. Last year we were hidden behind the van display and other than kids playing with the TV's in the trucks he didn't get much attention, and we had asked him to put up signs on the doors to keep people from opening the doors on our side of the display. As many of you know the last 3 years our space was cut almost in half each year. Also our contacts that got us into the show are not on the committee to help us get in.

I think I would rather not go on Saturday afternoon because it is too crowded. I will pick a time during the week when most people are working :p

I've got mixed emotions about not being invited again this year. CCDV (& our Cavalcade) received gads of exposure which was certainly a major PLUS for us, but it was also a chore putting it together (seeking those vintage, special interest or classic Vettes that were willing to come out from under their warm winter covers & brave the elements which weren't always favorable) & also soliciting members to help man our display. I guess it was good while it lasted!?!

Joel, good point on the lack of our club's exposure to the public. Is it possible we can have a stand there with our membership & Cavalcade documents. Or even a place to put our documents on a table. This way we only have to be concern with people issue and not the car issues.
Just a thought.

Ed if you look at the floor plan you'll see that every inch of space is leased to vendors.

I know i'll miss seeing the CCDV vettes at the show.
Pitty the poor KIA folks...trying to interest the public in their "cars" while the coolest rides in the hall are right next door! ;)

What a shame! My son and I really enjoyed representing the club last year at the display. Unfortunately, the 'Vettes do not add to the bottom line even though they are an important part of automotive history.

Doug:
You got that right! It was always a blast being down there, representing CCDV & the best part - hearing all the tales from the spectators. Seemed like everone who passed by had a Vette fantasy, memory or story of some sort! I'm sure our display will be missed & the fact that the C6 won't be there leaves little reason (at least for me) to attend!

Joel, My son, my wife and I had a blast showing our 67 vert there last year. That's a shame that the club wasn't invited back this year.

Financially wise: Considering our freebie spot ran somewhere between $10,000. & $15,000., I can understand their point. But when the other car makers complained that Chevrolet was getting preferential treatment with our Vettes being there, that will be their loss. Who's gonna pay $10.+ entrance fee + $?? to park, to see a Kia???
The good news is that prospective CCDV exhibitors won't have to
get their cars to the Conv.Ctr. in this weather.
