Keep in mind, dollar for dollar, the ZR1 costs more than the Viper.
Please keep in mind, these are not my opinions, these are published facts as far as I can tell.
lets get some opinions?

The GTR is a heavy, understeering pig. It has 4-wheel drive, which helps it getting out of the hole, but its transmission has a glass jaw and goes for over $20,000 to replace. Nissan sells no parts so if you break yours you need to buy a new one and endure Nissan's criticism for "abusing" their crappy car. If you ever use their "launch control" Nissan will put you in front of a firing squad. If you can't use the launch control, why the @!#$%^& did Nissan put it in the car to begin with? IT DOES HAVE, the admiration of every Jap loving ricer in the nation, and they will overstate their praise for the car vociferously at every opportunity. Stock for stock it WILL NOT outperform a ZR-1 unless the laws of physics do not apply to this car. Too much weight, CG too high, not enough horsepower or rubber on the ground.
The Viper is OK, except that big lunk of V10 engine up front does not promote good handling. Has good brakes, but the engine sounds like a UPS truck and the cockpit is claustrophopbic, especially the footwells. Also you will never need to turn on the heater because the cockpit get toasty warm from the exhaust in winter and REALLY hot in summer. If you like the Viper, better get one soon because it is unlikely to survive Ms. Pelosi's (and company's) upcoming oversight of Chrysler Corp.
The ZR-1 is a very well-behaved car at the track, with neutral handling, awesome acceleration and unbelievable brakes. It is a superb touring car, a pleasure to drive and also sounds great when you get the engine into the upper rev ranges and the exhaust butterflies open. Whether or not you like window on the hood is a matter of personal taste. As long as the car goes like scat (and it does!!) I overlook the questionable aesthetics.
End of opinion.

Frank, I agree with you 100%. We've all read the same car mags with their lavish slobbering ( this sure has been the year for slobberers ;bl ) over the GTR and how great and wonderful this car is. What I can agree to, as a mechanical engineer, is when you have a transmission and drive train that is so complicated it's just a matter of time, usually short at that, when this thing breaks! How you can rev anything up to 4500 rpm & dump it repeatably, and not expect it to crap out is amazing! I realize, that most of the car mag people are not engineers, but, even a 7 year old knows that. I wonder who will buy their mags when there are no more Corvettes, Vipers, Mustangs, Camaros and other American cars left for them to trash?!?

How right you are Frank! A friend of mine has one and I was not impressed at all. It actually feels like a turd. Can I say that ? Too late. I much rather drive the BMW M6 or the Mercedes Benz SL63. It's nice to know peeps with dough and good taste. Look forward to seeing you guys at the track this year. Probably stop down with Glenn
