Has anyone used the brake rotor cover that hides the surface of the rotor that is not touched by the pads? This part of the rotor is usually a bit rusted and does not look very well. I ordered a set from West Coast Corvett (149.00) but I began to think it might affect the cooling or make the cooling uneven and warp the rotor.

Thoughts? Thanks, Keith.

My thoughts are to stay clear from something like this. Sounds like something that would only add risk of damage and/or danger and certainly have nothing positive to add to the car.

That's not to mention the $149 expense.

(put that $149.00 towards a nice helmet) J/K :p

That is what I was thinking Glenn but unfortunately before I ordered. Good thing is WCC is great on returns. Thanks, Keith.

It's fairly easy to paint that portion of the rotor and it looks good when done. Some high temp black brushed on works great.

Mark, do you wire brush it first I assume?

I only wire brush of there is corrosion. Normally a bit of emery cloth and or steel wool followed by some paint. I did mine with plain old rustoleum gloss black and it's held up for 3 years. I think I'll add a fresh coat over the winter.

I brushed mine with exhaust manifold paint from Eastwood that has a gray cast iron type finish. Held up extremely well, looks great and you can buy it in a pint can.

OK.....was at Bryners today and spoke to Steve S. about my plan to paint the hub (no contact area) of the rotor so it looked nicer. He suggested I replace the rotors with nickel plated rotors and thought Mid America would have them.....no go and I have been all over the web with no luck. Any suggestions?????

Also we got talking about the jacking pucks....he said the there is now a product that is a strip that runs the length of the running boards and attaches into the 2 holes for the jack pucks....he said it awesome and the car can be jacked at any point on the strip. He thought Glenn might be aware of this product. They are left permanently installed and he mentioned this protects the running boards as well. Thoughts?

ps...I went in for some occassionaly clunking on slow 90 degree turns.....it so happens there is a tech bulletin out and he simply drained the rear end replaced it with a new fluid to resolve the problem. I asked if it was just with autos and he indicated it can happen with sticks shifters as well.

You can get rotors that are zinc washed so they don't rust lots of places. Even Tire Rack. I showed Steve the frame savers that I put on my car. It eliminates the need for jacking pucks and saves your rockers in case you encounter a tall speed bump or road debris. Come on by sometime and I'll show them to you. No expensive and fairly easy to install.

I use an actual $1.29 NHL Hockey puck.

Easy and obviously very inexpensive.

As far as your rotors are concerned, I'd stick with your origional plan to paint yours. Why spend the extra money to replace new rotors with new rotors???????

Glenn, as I looked at some of the prices and then that of high temp paint think that will be my direction especially since my rear end would need the high temp paint when my wife saw the UPS truck pull up with new rotors.....LOL
Mark, I will shoot you a PM when I can break away....retirement is just too busy. Where did you purchase them? Keith

You can paint the rotor hats while the car is in the air for the install.

Great! When Steve saw them on my car he was thrilled since it makes lifting the car easier and reduces the chance of cracking a rocker.

High temp aluminum paint would work well and looks almost like chrome.

It's cheap insurance that prevents a very costly repair.
