With my wife Michelle tromping thru the woods in the Poconos this weekend, and my Son away at college I was left all alone at home.
So I decided to head up to Island Dragway to get some practice on the tree and dialing in. I've been to Island on Friday nights before and have got 18 runs down the 1/4 mile. So I was looking forward to a fun night. Well I got there a little late and apparently everybody else did too. It took 30 minutes to get to the gate! There were the usual amount of cars in the lanes, so I was still optimistic in getting some runs in. Got one run in and then there was a full track ,not oil down, but ANTIFREEZE! One hour and a half later got two more runs in then a whole track oil down. Curfew is 10:30 but they let us get 1 more run in if you were in the lanes at 10:30. So instead of 18 runs I only got 4 runs. But I did get some valuable data to help me later on this week end.
Saturday was a Corvette Challenge race at Englishtown. Went two rounds and lost in the third round with a "really pretty" red light. Picked up the best reaction time award in the first round with a .005. :D I stayed to run in the Real Street race in the afternoon. First round I was up against a 17 second car. I don't usually get to chase very often and when I do I usually red light. So I was determined NOT to light the red bulb. Well I didn't, my light was .134, NOT good enough to win. I stuck around and watched Corvette drivers win the 12.0, 11.0, & 10.0 index races. That's right, Corvettes swept the Index races! ;bt
Sunday I went down to Atco Raceway to run in a couple of National Dragster races. In those races you can win a Wally trophy, the same ones that the guys ( Schumacher, Force, and the likes ) on TV win. I got within three rounds of winning one! I went 4 rounds in the Street ET class. Along the way I hit a .000 light to win a round. (First one in competition) In the 5th round I dialed a 14.21 and ran 14.211!!! But my opponent was only off .004 and was .023 better on the tree. I had my A game on but still came up .019 short.
While down there I met Cliff Bray. He's got a black 78 Vette and has been racing down there this year. Last time I saw him he was running mid 15s. Now he's running mid 13s! Same motor, he got some help from some friends and got the car properly tuned, and now can run mid 13s in the middle of the Summer!
"All in all" I had a fun week end!
Can't wait until my Wife goes hiking again for the entire weekend! :D
