I would like advice on new tires for my 1985 Corvette. I checked the tire discounters on the web and found there are only two performance tires available in the 255 x 50 ZR 16 size for early C4 Corvettes. They are:

the BF Goodrich g Force Sport and the Dunlop SP Sport 8000.

I am planning to call Jay at Eppies and see what he has to offer for prices. I would appreciate any comments members may have on the tires in terms of handling, road noise and traction on wet or dry road surfaces.

Thanks for your help. Ken

I put Michelin's on all my C4's pretty shortly after getting them in the 80's, of course that tire is no longer made. :( Jay will help you for sure.

One thing that may help expand your choices is you could also use 275/45x16 or 265/45x16 sizes. They are very close to the same diamater as your OEM size..

This is a very nice tool to use to compare Tire Sizes ====> Tire size Calculator (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html)

Glenn,

Thanks for your help. I will look into the tire sizes you suggested and the link to compare tire sizes.

I've got the Dunlop SP Sport 8000 tires on my 87. The performed great at Pocono last year. I purchased them from Jay at Eppies.

They are quiet on the road and handled great on the track. Haven't driven them in the rain. The tread pattern indicates to me that they will handle just fine in the rain.

Goodyear GS-D3's are supposed to be the best. I think either Vette Magazine or Car and driver had a big test maybe 6 months back and Goodyear was best all around tire. Dry AND Wet.

I have to agree with Bob. I has GY GS D3's on another car and they performed great.
