Scott Kalitta died yesterday from injuries sustained in a horrible fiery crash at E-Town yesterday
He hit the concrete barricade at the end of the track at 300 mph.
There are films of the crash on CF.

Old and very Bad news Rick

It happened Saturday afternoon.... (http://jalopnik.com/396760/the-horrifying-scott-kalitta-funny-car-crash-video-as-shown-by-espn2)
Englishtown needs to do some redisigning of the top end of the track to make it safer. They will just have to extend it across Pension Rd and have people there during major events to stop traffic during EVRY pass as it's done at Maple Grove.

Looked to me like he was gone long before he hit that wall. Very sad.

With the number of mishaps at Englishtown, it's becoming somewhat scary. I think I might leave my racing just to doing autocross?

Joel, you're not going to have any problem with the top end of the track with your car, believe me. Scott was travelling approx 328MPH at the 1320 stripe. You could probably lift at the stripe, throw it in neutral and not even make it to the sand trap at the top. :o

Glenn: You're right. With the new L-88 hood I'll probably max out at 299. Besides, I'm sure Richy wasn't doing much more than 60 when he hit the wall. Guess I'll wait & see.

This is a very sad incident. The bigger concern is not E-town but nitro racing in general with medlen killed last year

A very good solution to Nitro Racing is to race for only 1000 feet. There are many reasons other than the obvious why this would be a good idea...

.....but, E-Town does need to redesign that top end. The right side wall curves to the left after the gravel trap.......... no need for that....

Not sure about he wall placement whether it is intentional or not but my understanding is there are wood back there then Pension Road.
