Well I had the Oxford White GT for about two weeks and decided to trade it in for a 2004 Mustang Mach 1 Limited Production 40th Anniversary Edition. It's Dark Shadow Grey Metallic. Only about 9,000 produced for 2003 and even less for 2004. Plant in Dearborn, MI closed down in November, so no more orders for Mach 1's. Here's a link to some pics.

Thanks everyone. Glenm27, I too owned a 1970 Grabber Orange Mach 1, 351 4 barrel Cleveland, shaker scoop, detroit locker, rear louvres, rear spoiler, front spoiler, magnum 500 wheels, am/fm tape deck, fold down seat, power steering, power brakes, c6 tranny.....great ride. I really enjoyed it.
I bought the new Mach Saturday Nov 22, 2003. When I got home, my wife was looking at the scrapbook we have for the 1970 Mach, and it read "Larry & Stephanie purchased their 1970 Mach 1 on Saturday, November 22, 1969. ;ae

Coincidence.....or not. That is strange though. What happened to your '70? Maybe the same fate awaits this one!!!!

Wow, that is quite a coincidence on the dates. Your 70 sounds very nice. Mine diod not have the shaker hood, but had all the other cool stuff, fold down rear seat, big 4 barrell, rear spoiler (no louvers though) and mine ALSO was Grabber Orange.
Very cool Larry. I'd like to see your new one someday.

It's no Z-06 but it would do nicely! My wife, Sue, always wanted a 65 or 66 Mustang - red w/black. I wanted to buy one a while back but it wasn't the color combo she wanted. I told her that I'd get it painted, etc. but she wouldn't go for it. So she's still waiting!

There are pics in my first post. Just click the link.
I sold my first Mach 1 in 1987 to a land developer and collector of Mustangs in Connecticut. I paid $3k for it and sold it for $10k. The fate with this one will be different. No reason to sell because kids are all out of the house now. Now we'll just wait for the new bodystyles to come out for the new Mustangs and Corvettes. I'll be looking to trade again. :)

You know it's kind of neat to hear about some of the cars we owned way back when we were all "young whippersnappers". The best thing is, that most all of us have been car guys for a long time. ;yn And all though now we all have our love for Corvettes in common, there used to be and still are some really nice cars out there. When you really think about it, where else could you live and grow up with the opportunity to own and drive cars like we have.;tt Just something, in reflection, to be thankful for I think.;yn ;ps

Gee the white GT would have done nicely for your wife. It was an automatic. On the other hand, my wife didn't like it because it was an automatic, so I got the Mach for myself and looking now for a '65 or '67 C2 4 speed for her. You know you gotta keep your wife happy too! :D
As far as the Machs, these 32 valve baby Z's :D with just a blower are turning low 11's at the track. It's really tough looking and sit a half inch lower than the regular GT's. It has different suspension and rear, and the color dark shadow gray metallic makes it really look exotic. We named her Gray Ghost Bullit. They are documented by Ford and only around 9,000 made in '03, and the numbers are even lower for the '04 40th Anniversary models, putting an end to the Mach 1 era. The shortest run for Mach 1 ever. There are some collectors that are just taking them off the carriers and shipping them to storage. I'm not going that far, I do plan to put some miles on it, but baby it. We have one of the last ones produced, and they are not taking any more orders for them, as the Michigan plant is closing, and gearing up for their new plant for the new trucks. A new plant is being built in California for the new '05 Mustangs which will have a retro look, but no more Mach's in the future.

Rick, We actually started out looking for a Trans Am Ram air in Black. At first we were really excited about it. But, then after we drove one, there were certain characteristics of it that I didn't like, such as the lump on the floor on the passenger side where the catalytic converter is. The tires didn't compliment the body around the wheel wells. It looked like there was too much space. Getting in and out of it was also a little difficult, something like the C4. The performance wasn't what I expected either. I didn't care for the hatch that much, there was hardly any trunk space, and it did rattle quite a bit. I guess that's why Mustang outsold the Camaro and Firebird. I wasn't too keen on the sound system either. The Mach 1, I felt, had more advantages. It felt like a pony car, I like the 32 valve dual overhead cam, trunk space was more accomodating, the Mach 460 sound system with 6 cd in dash changer is an advantage, and it is more more comfortable. The leather interior is well put together and fit and finish is excellent. The 355.5 rear straight axle locker is one of the best rears that Ford has to offer. And, I was just hooked on the body style, plus the three year warranty and the price was less than a used '02 low mileage Trans Am. Don't get me wrong, the Trans Am is a great car, but it really didn't turn me on. Now a C2 or a Z06, that's worth spending extra bucks for. Plus I always was a enthusiast for the Shelby, Cobra and Mach 1. I always had a Vette and Stang in my corral, but never was a fan of Pontiacs or Camaros. PS. As they say about the Vette, I feel it also pertains to the Mustang Mach 1.....it's definitely a good bang for the buck.
