 Nobody seems to know the answer to this question the vast knowledge of the CCDV membership is my last hope. I recently needed to replace the ignitor on my gas dryer. It seems to be working fine now however the length of the flame in the heat exchanger is about 5 inches long. My question is, does this seem excessive or is this normal?

Don, it is indeed excessive. Hope I don't hear a loud boom down here in Furlong. Call the gas company!

Don, you are talking main flame not pilot? I assume the igniter is electric ignition. it can be 5" as long as it is kept in the heat exchanger. If not sure check on-line to manufacturer site. The flame is control by gas pressure so if it has not change. You did not play with it did you!
If in doubt call Gas company to check.

It does have an ignitor which is nothing more than a heating element that ignites the gas when it gets hot enough, that's what went bad. The flame is mostly blue and stays inside the heat exchanger. I made no adjustments at all other than vacuuming out a crapload of lint. I suppose it's OK ;ae , after seeing how these things work I'll be vacuuming out the interior of all lint on a regular basis from now on.

I think Chris and the dog are safer in the trunk until the dryer is fixed.
