Missing last week, I was jonesing for my drag racing fix, so it was off to E-town, with drag radials mounted & weather station in hand!
On a BRILLIANT day, with abundant sunshine & temps at 45 degrees, with humidity around 30% & the barometer above 30, that all translated into a SUPER day of racing with DA hanging around -700 or lower most of the day!
Combine the conditions with a sparsely attended track, and that made up for one of the BEST days of drag racing I was EVER at!
My plan was to participate in the US Muscle Drags eliminations, and also do some time shots.
Well, run I did, with a total of 17 passes, and if I didn't take a few hot chocolate breaks, there could have been 4 or 5 more runs!!!
Now the REALLY good part...(as if that wasn't enough)!
The track was sticky, & there were NO stoppages or breakdowns AT ALL!
During the course of time runs, I made a new all time best, with a few 12.01 runs, and a 12.00 run to better my all time 12.02.
As the sun warmed the track, things only got better as I peeled off two new best 11.987 runs, with identical 1.745 60', and 113.56 (right lane) & 114.58 (left lane) mph runs.
In the US MUSCLE DRAGS, I went 6 rounds to the FINALS!
It was "Deja Vu" as my opponent was the same guy who I beat in the SLP King of the Track Finals.
He dialed in at 13.00, a full second slower than my 12.00 dial.
I felt confident with the 12.00 dial as I was running a string of 12.01's, and the DA was going up.
All of my lights throughout the day were .0xx!
I was really ON!
Well, thinking I don't want to get itchy & red light, I laxed somewhat, and cut a very poor .100 light.. Ugggggg
I KNEW I had to run it out, and so did my car as I was announcing, c'mon baby, faster faster, get him!
Well, my car responded, and I took him at the stripe by .008!
However, my car responded to my every word, with a very UNcharacteristic .05 breakout, which totally floored me.
Yep, I ran a 11.95 on my 12.00 dial, with
the "trusty" (yea right....) weather computer predicting 12.01. Hummmmmmmm....
Shocked to say the least, not only by the amount of the breakout, but also by what I perceived as an "unattainable ET", with rising DA, temperature & humidity...
So, basically, I'll just say that I "hooked big time", with another all time best at Englishtown, a 1.727 60' on that run.
All my other runs had 60' of 1.74 & 1.75....
Oh well.... He cut a better light, ran a better race. He deserved it.
Hey, I still got $50 & a trophy.
Overall, just an incredible day!
