Well guys, I got my first ever ticket today. Was I driving the Vette & going crazy....nope.;tt I was driving up Rt 514 in New Jersey to go to our Rita's & do some pre start up work. On the way, as I rolled thru a small cluster of houses I noticed a New Jersey State Trooper. I checked my speed & it didn't look too bad. Anyway, he promptly floored it, did a half of wheelie & followed me for about 3 miles. Guess he thought I was a terrorist. Talk about "paranoid"... He then put on his bubble gum machine & pulled my hot rod Cavalier over. Told me I was doing 38 in a 35 mph zone! Then he got my license, owners card and went back & sat in his big ass Ford cruiser for about 20 minutes. He came out & said he'd only give me a speeding warning...(what a nice guy) for 3 miles over the speed limit. 38 in a 35 mph zone....Ouch! Then he gave me a ticket because my license plate holder (a Nittany Lions Holder) obstructed his view of the state I was from. (Todd, be pre- warned ! And JoPa is po'ed) This ticket was for a total of $ 54.00. Can you believe this? Well, the lesson is this. Beware of all the traffic laws, especially the ones that are "clueless, meaningless & downright stupid". :D Just thought you all know that there are still "storm troopers " out there, so be careful.

Just to let everyone know that we just received a memo about tag obstruction and that during our state inspections we are to fail it or remove it, none of the numbers or letters including Pennsylvania can be covered and you could be ticketed.

That's just chicken shit. Cops like that who have nothing better to do give other Cops a bad reputation.

Thank God the NJSP are bringing the Mike Campbell crime spree to a halt. We can all breath a little easier and sleep soundly tonight. The roadways have become a lot safer since this horrible crime wave ended. I for one am thankful and hope they throw the book at him. ;bl

Mike, maybe you should either stay home with sweetie more or take her with you when you drive. I am sure after the Statee would haven taken one look at her in the passenger seat, he would have said to her. God Bless you my sweet, you don't need any more grief and would have left both of you go on your merry way ;bl ;aw ;aw . That does stink though, 54 + bucks and 45 minutes out of your life for WHAT?

OMG! Mike, Don't you know any better than to SPEED in NJ. I am in NJ every day. We have jobs going on all over.
Small town CCOPS and State Troopers will nail you every time. West Windsor is the worst. The small town of Cranberrys cops have nothing better to do than sit and wait for some unsuspecting commuter to break the speed limit.
I guess they are trying to help NJ's 38 billion dollar debt.
My God man, 38mph in a 35 mph zone. You sir should be drawn & quartered, or you could blame it on your ex!

If I was retired, I'd fight it just to make them waste the $54. That's sad when a cop is reduced to that. No self respect I guess.

The funny part is, that was an offense that could have been corrected right on the spot. You could tell the judge you just got a call from your mechanic and you were bringing it in that day to have it removed. If he asks if you told the officer that, say, "Why, do you think it would have mattered?" You might also repeat the line about him not knowing in what state you were registered. If a Jersey cop can't recognize a PA plate, he has serious reasoning problems. Hence the ticket.

I'm with you on this one. The fully loaded costs has to exceed 160K per year per a trouper to put them out onto the street. That trouper is either misdirected by his superiors or NJ has too many of them. In any event it is a complete waste of tax payer money.

Well Joe, you are probably right, but, being under partial arrest, who the heck thinks of this stuff?? Not me for sure.;tt Now...does this make me respect any state Storm Sigheimers any better?? No freakin way! All I can say is this.. As a generally law abiding citizen all I can say is...this sucks big time. I love this country & even at my age fight & die for it.but I hate these petty jerks who love all these piss ant laws that, we as citizen, some how allow to be passed. I will pay the fine, but,I don't think it's fair.

Mike - Why isn't that guy on the superhighways where the speeders are putting peoples lives in danger.

I would fight the ticket. Every state allows for so many miles over the speed limit due to everyone’s speedometer is not calibrated the same.

Also if he used a radar gun you can ask when the last time that was calibrated. There is a time limited on how often that happens.

Good luck.

You hit the nail right on the head!

I work in Jersey every day. For alittle over a month now I've noticed a MAJOR increase in road side stops on 295, 130 thru West Windsor, Hightstown and Cranberry, 206 thru Bordentown to Princeton, and 518 from Lambertville to Princeton.

I got tailed a couple of times recently, nothing happened. But since then, after noticing the increase in pull-overs I have been staying about 5 mph under the speed limit. Just last week I had a Hopwell Cop about 1' off of my rear bummper on 518 while going 3 to 5 mph under the speed limit. That was interesting! He was there thru the whole trip thru Hopwell Twp. Once I crossed twp. lines he did a U-turn and followed someone else!

Doug, I suppose this is all due to a major price increase at Dunkin Doughnuts! ;ttYou know the old saying, "You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a cop in Jersey." How many times have we all gone to Englishtown and not seen a minimum of 4 cops?? As for speeders, there are worse traffic crimes than speeding which for some reason never are enforced. The bottom line is, speeders are easy & lucrative targets. Real criminals just might shoot their ass. By the way, today driving Nancy to work we noticed at least 90% of the other cars are potential tickets with obstructed plates. This windfall could keep Rendell from selling another highway! ;jj

You're almost right about too many police in NJ Mike. I have the unfortunate duty to visit a few customers in the Jersey City/Newark area, real bad neighborhoods. On a positive note however I can go as fast I want to there with my license plate completely covered if I wish because I have never ever seen a police cruiser in that neighborhood  . I suppose they are too busy with ne'er-do-wells like you. ;bl

Mike you'll like this..... Sunday afternoon I was going down Taylorsville road to get onto 95. At the exit I saw a New Jersey State Cop in Pennsylvania giving someone a ticket. He actually chased him into PA. I guess NJ is beginnig to dry up and they need to look elswhere for $$$$$$.

Mike I think the only way you would win would be if the the court ignores the NJ law and does whats right and you know that will never happen. Anyone especially a NJ State Trooper that patrols the NJ/PA border can tell that your plate was a PA plate however the JOYZEE law reads:
License plates (http://www.njmvc.com/specalB.htm)
At registration, you will receive two license plates (one for trailers, motorized bicycles and motorcycles). Attach one plate to the front and another to the rear of the car, at least 12 inches, but less than 48 inches above the ground. Both plates must be clean and visible. The rear plate must be lighted so it shows from 50 feet at night, even with reflectorized plates. Using license plate holders that obscure or conceal any lettering on the license plate is a violation with a fine of up to $100, up to $200 for habitual offenders.

I just removed my license plate trim to avoid this kind of BS.

Yep! I removed the holder from my car & Nancy's. The Corvette's however doesn't obscure the word "Pennsylvania" so hopefully they'll leave me alone.;tt

The dealer installed their advertising trim plate that covers the registration sticker on my wifes Volvo. Guess they're not up on vehicular violations.
