Hi, i have a 1981 corvette thats speedometer does not work. i took out the old speedo cable and bought a new one at pep boys. It is a corvette that has cruise control. The cable is the cable that connects to the transmission and the cruise control box. When i attatched the cruise control and and attatched a drill to the transmission end the speedo worked. so then i attatched the transmission end and the speedometer does not work. do i have to cut the ends of the cable to make it fit? please help me figure out the problem. thank you.

The transmission speedo gears are plastic. They may have stripped off. There should be a smaller housing that is bolted into the tranny where the cable attaches. You'll have to remove that tocheck the gear. There is also a gear on the tailshaft of the trans. You should be able to see if thats gone as well when you get that gear housing out.
