I clay barred my Vette back when I bought it in 03. Since then I have been Zainoing it several times every year. Would there be any benefit to clay barring it again and starting all over again, or is it best just to keep on layering the Zaino.

The clay will certainly take off all the junk that may be on your car.

If you can feel anything on your cars surface then go ahead and clay it. IF you don't, don't bother. If you see or feel no reason to clay the car, then don't.

Norm, I think there is. My car just turned two and I have piled coat after
coat of Zaino ever since. I just finished the tedious task of a clay baring.
I took me almost an entire day but was amazed of how much brown sh*t
came up. The paint is now glass smooth and the polish is buffing up
wow. ;aw

I do it once a year, just before spring. During the winter there are days like today where the car is colder than the air temp. Any condensation will melt any dust into mud that will get into the surface. A light claying in the spring will start you off with a clean car to re-Zaino.

Todd,

It's not a waste of time at all. Besides, what else would you be doing. One question though, why did it take you all day? I did my car from top to bottom yesterday in maybe 4 hours. And that included taking the wheels off, doing the wheel wells and changing the oil. Were there some malt beverages involved in your detailing regiment? ;)

Washed the car today since it was a little salty b/c I used it last week, and changed the clutch fluid. Can I schedule an appointment now for a clay in the Spring :)

All you need to do is a good wash first. Then clay, then wash again and then on to the Zaino. Stop by for a Zaiontini, 5 parts Vodka, 1 part Z8. Slides down real easy.

Got to keep them in a humidor if you want them to stay fresh. I have several spare humidors if you want to use one. I used to have 5 of full to the top until I bought the cabinet. In a pinch you can use a zip lock bag with a moist cotton ball or two in it.

I can't get the Z8 on w/o smearing anyway so might as well drink it! With 5 parts Vodka it might actually be good. I'll drop off the Z8 next time I'm over.

Z8 can be a bitch when the air is damp. I've had to heat up the garage well in advance of of applying Z8 in the winter so it doesn't smear too much. You couldn't get it to dry today to save your life.

Thanks everyone for their advise. I hate to destroy the 18 or so coats of Zaino I put on over the years but it sounds like it won't hurt anything to clay bar it. So what the heck, it's going to be a long winter so I might as well do it.

This don't have nothing to do with Zaino but on a serious note my wife's Dad passed away early Friday morning. He will be buried this Thursday. He was 91 and had a stroke about two weeks ago.

My wife watched over him very carefully ever since her Mom passed 13 years ago. She spent very much time caring for him and gave him much more than he ever earned. It was tough for me watching him pass slowly but much more so for my wife and very draining. This is a life altering event for my wife.

Bill,

I have done that before with improved results. The problem is that when it's really humid like today even that doesn't help.

Hey Norm,

Sorry to hear about your loss. It's tough to lose a parent and it is equally difficult watching your spouse go through it, especially around the holidays. You and your family are in our prayers.

I am very sorry to hear about your wife's Dad BUT I will guarantee to you that he is now with some very good people.....

As much as it hurts your wife now, it is only a matter of time until she meets with her Dad and her Mom too again. I hope she believes as I do that they will meet again.

THAT belief is something that helps keep me sane.....
The other thing that keeps me going are my dear friends that help me get through every day. They all know who they are.... Many of them will read this...

God Bless you and your Wife.

Merry Christmas my Friend...

Glenn

I like 65% product (Z-6 or Z-8) to 35% distilled water.

Thanks all. I wasn't thinking at the time and shouldn't have posted that on a Zaino thread. In any event after my wife watched her Dad slowly pass over a two week period, the funeral was almost anti-climatic and brought closure for my wife. As bad as it sounds the he looked better off dead than he did alive over the past two weeks.
