My C-6 with 13,000 miles has started groaning, or clunking and scraping sounds when making very low speed (2-5 mph) turns.
Typically in a parking lot or my own drive way.
Any ideas.
Dealer says he hasn't heard of anything like this.

There are many posts on Corvette Forum about similar sounds during low speed turns. Looks like some are cured by changing the rear fluid and putting in some additive when refilling it. It's under warranty, take it to Steve at Bryner.

I listed below a link to a thread on the forum concerning a TSB on this groaning noise.

There has also been some owners reporting steering noises at low speeds, don't know where GM gets their oils from but most of my newer cars have always made less rear end noise by getting the stock gear oil out of the car and replace it ASAP.

Lets start with if the noise is coming from front or back? If noise is in rear its going to be changing rear fluid and doing 8 to 10 sloooow figure 8's then recheck if noise doesn't go away clutch packs. if its from the front could be just tires.I would have to hear it.

It was the differential fluid. They replaced it with the new stuff (there is a service bulletin), and it magically went away.
Thanks a million.

Here material is completely glazed off, teeth are whittled down to nothing,
clutches are literally welded together & wear on bar section as shown...

GM as well as many other car manufacturers should stop using the cheapest oils and this would not happen, they spend so much more money in warranty work than the difference in what good oils costs. :(

Good comment Carl, you right, penny wise, dollar foolish. Hopefully time will take care of this.

My C6 used to do that. Very annoying.

My 05 Z51 postively ALWAYS groans when turning the steering at zero to 1 mph, the front tires appear to bear the brunt of my front end noise problems. I think the automatic moves more weight forward and the car also behaves skittish at speed and very road sensitive, implying not enough camber. Of course my dealer has no clue. at 18K miles I started hearing a different low speed turning groan, I will pay attention to the rear oil issue mentioned above, good clues here!
