Hey Guys,
Happy Friday!:D
What can we do as far as headers are concerned in the wonderful Keystone State? I was looking at Pacesetter shortys, but only because I don't know how far we can mod with the current emissions standards. Can we use long tubes? From what I've been reading, most say shortys are a waste of $$. I can't see as how this could be completely true because the tubes and bends seem smoother than stock manifolds. At the very least the correct size (1 5/8ths ?)should generate a few more pounds of torque even if it is immediately faced with the stock cat conv. positioning.

OPINIONS GENTLEMAN?

Shorties are a waste of money.

I can NOT see why headers would pose an emissions problem....

I have Long Tubes on my C5 and I doubt highly there are any emissions problems..

Of course also, if you stay under 5000 miles/year, you are emmissions exemt in PA

Don't you have to file for that?

Did you have to change the stock position of the cat to install? I'm not familiar with c5 systems (but I hope to be !!)

No need to file anything. You have to have the car inspected close to the same time each year (like within 14 days) and if the miles are below 5k, you're good.

Yes I changed the position of my cats when the headers were installed.

They went from just after the exhaust manifolds to the trash dumpster. :D

As long as the car is tuned properly headers pose "0" threat to emmissions output. And, as Glenn mentioned if you are under 5K a year it doesn't matter.

LALALALALA....can't hear you , I never heard you say that, I wasn't there, can't pin that on me !!! lol;jj

no, really, no cats??

I'm pretty sure on 95's back, there is no "sniffer" test just a visual. I would think you guys would have to get it... or it just falls under that exemption of 5 k miles/year..... hmmm, 5k/yr....do you guys ever drive your Vettes??

I know you guys are close to me, who takes care of your inspection? Igot my pink slip and the title shouls be in the mail to me soon from the dot. Just have to grab some insurance and get registered. Geico quoted me $417 for 6months

I have had my C4 for 6 years, and have never gotten an emissions test. Glenn is correct. There is nothing to file. The only thing my mechanic requires (in addition to being below 5,000 miles) is that I bring it in for inspection no earlier than exactly one year from the previous inspection date. I've recently asked him if he would have any problem inspecting it if I installed long tube headers and high output cats, and he said no.
I have a '90' L98. Eckler's wants $949.99 for a set of S/S headers. If anyone knows of a better priced source and somebody good locally to install them please let me know.

I got long tubes and random tech cats and it has always sailed thru the emission tests. My kids Trans Am has gutted cats and believe it or not it also passed the test. I always heard that shorties are pretty much a waste of $$$$.

Aquavette: I have found that the T.P.I.S. headers fit exceptionally well. Easy access to the plugs. They come with all the air tubesand are jet hot coated. The cost is somewhere around 750.00. They also sell the "Y" pipe as well. I am in Southampton. I have a catalog if you would like to check them out. I have had mine for 5 years and they still look great.
