View Full Version : What's with the flag?

I recently moved up to a C-5. After hours of pouring over the C-5 logo in catalogues, I noticed the the C-5 logo has a white Square in upper left hand corner of the checkered flag, while the C-6 logo is black in this spot. I thought this was all cool, until one day, while gazing at my steering wheel (hopefully stopped at a light, or late at night alone in my garage) I realized that the flag on my steering wheel has the C-6 flag on it!! How can this be?
I can't believe that such an important detail has been left to random chance!!
has there been any research on this??

I believe C5 steering wheels are black in the center. If must have been changed by the previous owner. WCC sells the emblem.

I don't know if they painted any from the factory, I think it's a mod done by owners. That being said, I've seen aftermarket C5 emblems both ways. Just page through a catalog and you'll see some reversed.

What year Vette did they put that last emblem on? ;tt
When I had painted my C5 hoodliner, I had to verify the same thing. I had to reference the legitimate C5 logo on the hood and rear decklid because there are products out there that have it inverted.
Nick, as I recall, from doing the C5 hornpad decal myself, the flag white components are individual tiny stickers. I had to apply them with tweezers and a razor blade. The person who applied the decals must have inverted them accidentally. Either that, or he wrecked one of the little white stickers (he would have had 8, but if he inverted them, he would only need to use 7). The only solid decals that overlayed the whole parallelogram sections on either side were the red "fleur de lis" and chevy emblem on the right side.
I think its a nice looking appearance mod that should have been there from the factory. Its nice they got it right on the C6.

Hey Don:
Is that last emblem a relative or from a Yugo?

Joel I was going to have a quiz like the ones you had in grade school, you know what picture does not belong here. But I was afraid too many of us would get it wrong. ;bl

That was a special export emblem to China for the Year of the Monkey (I forget the exact year but it had to be either 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004).

I don't know what is more pathetic-- owners having to attach emblems GM cheaped out on, or aftermarket suppliers who can't make a correct copy-- maybe by reversing the flag they avoid a copyright issue---

How about owners who are actually concerned about this..

Joel,
Let's face it--there is a certain fraction of our population that consider attention to this kind of detail the whole point of owning a Corvette-- not there's anything wrong with it!!
