finally got it out. Thanx to fellow club members past experience, I was able to get the key out and install the new knob.
I was talking to a guy who also owns a 03 z06. he had the same problem with this key. he tells me that they nick named this lead key, the demond key and it is especially hard to get out of the 03's. He told me that he knows a guy that was pulling so hard on the key, that it broke off and he slammed into the windshield and smashed it! another guy slipped of the key and and put the screw driver right threw the dash. I almost put the screw driver threw the radio.
Owners of 03's becareful! thanks again for the advise.
Nick

I have installed many shifters on 97'-04' Vettes and some of the shifter knob keys were easier to remove than others.

Hey Carl. Since you've installed many shifters I have a question. I didn't have any problem getting the key out. However, when I installed my new Kirban shifter knob I ran down the jam nut all the way and then threaded the knob down & tightened eveything up, real nice and with the shifter pattern straight. Then last Sunday we went to a car show. Remember how hot & humid it was. Well, when we left the knob was loose as a goose and when I re tightened everything the shift pattern was all out of whack. Any suggestions? Like another jam nut, or lock tight, or what??

Mike, as Bob said a drop or two of Lok-Tite and tighten the nut and you should be fine. What kind of wild things were you and your gal doing in the car? :o :o :o :o
