shifter knob problem.

Can anyone help? I am trying to remove the stock knob to replace with custom and can't get the dam knob off?
there is a lead wedge in the center of the knob and according to instructions it is to pull straight out. I pulled so hard I pulled the top of the wedge off. We tried everything and the wedge won't come out/ anyone try this ? I have a 03 Z.

With the top of the wedge no longer there you'll have to drill and tap the wedge and screw in a screw. Put some CRC or other type of lube on it and let it sit for a while. Clamp on a small pair of vice grips and with a little hammer tap up on it (the vice grip). Try not to pull to hard on the vice grip as if the thing breaks loose you may break something else. Maybe someone else has an easier or better solution but that's what I'd do.
