My digital Temp. display is blank on my 2000 C5.
Penske Chev. wants 450.00 for a new one installed.
I can by a remanufactured one from Corvette Central for $199.00 with a year gaurantee.
Does anyone know a fast way of replacing these at home ?
If these are junk which I suspect I don't want to bother.

Also my headlights pop open when I turn on my fog lights without turning on the headlights. At the same time this started, when I close the headlights they both close fine but the motor on the drivers side continues to run for
about 1 minute with a grinding noise after closing.
I can by metal gears from Corvette Central to
rebuild the motor, but I don't know it this will solve both my problems with the lights. (I don't know why this would happen in conjunction with the headlight doors opening prematurally with just the fogs on).
Does anyone have an answer for this in addition ton the controller problem ?

The HVAC control panel is reasonably easy to replace if you know how to take the center console and radio bezel off.

You'd have to take down the knee bolster under the steering wheel, disconnect the interior air temperature sensor (which you may end up breaking), loosen the center console, pop off the radio bezel, then unscrew the screws keeping the HVAC controls in there. As I recall, there's just a simple clip on wire connector that connects it. Its a do it yourself job if you are OK with taking the dash apart.

Your headlight issues sound like they do need a dealer visit. If you're taking it to a dealer to get the headlights addressed, you might want to consider having them do the HVAC control work if you're not comfortable with taking the dash apart.

I had the dash apart on my C5 at least 7 times through the years to install aftermarket XM radio with an FM modulator, a light up flameball shift knob, a column lock bypass module, remove a column lock bypass module, and also took the whole gauge cluster out to install aluminum bezels around them.

You could have a look at these 2 links to see whats involved in getting that bezel off to get to the HVAC controls.

Thanks for the link info. I printed this out and will use it if I decide to see my LED controls readout again. However, since the original only lasted 18,000 miles I'm not sure if I want to replace it with new junk, unless this problem has been solved.
Apparently it is another problem with the junk that GM used to make these cars because Corvette Central has these units in the catalog as a regular repair, and addresses it as "if unit goes blank". There is no excuss for this poor build Quality in a 50K plus car.
Same with the headlights. As far as that goes, I have the (3) factory shop manuals for that problem, (and don't want to pay a dealer 100.00/hr. to fix it since I'm not working) but as long as they still operate, I'm not sure if I want to spend the money to fix junk with new GM junk, since both of the problems will probably reoccur anyway...Glenn E.
