I have a brand new problem with my 92. As I was leaving the Goodnoes cruise on Tuesday night my 92 backfired as I was pulling away from a stop sign. It seems as if it's running on 7 cylinders now very rough when you give it the gas, it's extremely sluggish, the valves are rattling like it's running rich and it backfires. Any ideas?????? Except the obvious, call Bryners.
it's got
new; optispark, Bosch plugs, Taylor wires, ECU, had the fuel system cleaned at Bryners last year:confused:

How many miles on that thing Don. Hate to suggest it might be a timing chain. Better get it plugged into a scan tool and see whats up.

I am sure Steve will figure it out. Unless......ah......somebody switched
the wires around. Good luck Don. and if you need a ride
or have time to kill when at Bryner's give me a call. I am 5 minutes away

about 55,000 miles. Crap I didn't think about the timing chain that would be a real good possibility.

Thanks Todd, I may take you up on that.
Check your spark plug wires, in high heat when a little too much dielectric grease (sp) is used inside the spark plug wire boot can built up pressure, and pop the wire off the spark plug slightly. This happened to my C4's a few times before I learned. :)

Is your check engine light on?

Don,
I doubt the timing chain would be the problem with only 55K, those things are pretty sturdy on the LT1 engines and should go well over 100K. Quick visual inspection would be good to pick up any problems like Carl noted. Does it do it when it is cold? Wondering if the coil might be suffering from the extreme heat. When idling at a light with the ac on in the heat mine will buck sometimes when pulling away but then seems to clear right up when it get going. Maybe when it backfired it blew off a vacuum line.

Steve is the "KING OF CORVETTES". I called Bryners this morning told Steve my problem. He asked me if I had cleaned my engine compartment recently. I told him I had however after I cleaned it I ran the motor for about 20 minutes to heat it up enough to vaporize any moisture in or around the opti-spark or more aptly awful-spark. And it ran fine 5 hours later on my 40 minute trip to Newtown. He said let it sit in the heat for a while then try it again. So it sat in my garage at least 100 degrees all day. Started it up a 5 pm and it ran like a big dog. Maybe I'm jumping the gun but my faith in Steve's ability or his crystal ball seems to have hit the nail on the head again.

Wrong again RJ, I simply drove it down the Trenton public boat launch ramp let it soak for 10 or 15 minute then took it out for a spin dry.:D

That is called an optispark not an aquaspark Don. Better start dry cleaning that engine!
