I have a new C6, black, and am trying to find a good detail shop to get some Zaino on it. I may try it myself eventually but I'm afraid to mess it up! Can anyone recommend a good place? Thanks, and much appreciated.

Terrific, and thanks again. I'll give you a call tomorrow.

Glenn Murphy and I are happy to offer our servcies for a reasonable fee. We only use Zaino on our Vettes. We'd detail your car INSIDE my garage in Huntingdon Valley. You'll be amazed with the results that Zaino produces. If you cover your car you'll need someone to help, the cover will slide right off.

PM Glenn or myself if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Glenn & Mark will make your car look like glass. They do an awesome job.
I speak from experience. My car NEVER looked as good as when they detailed it. Can't wait to see it when they are done.

Well, the real test would be on my wife's 98 Expedition with candy and food scattered all over the interior :D Seriously though, I can't wait to see it!

Nothing like black paint when it's clean. :)

This car had exceptional paint. At first I was telling the guys how impressed I was with the lack of orange peel.

Then an hour later I put my glasses on to do the Z6 and Z8 work and all of a sudden the orange peel showed up. I guess my eyes are worse than I thought :D

Still, the car is very very nice and not a mark on it (well one tiny tiny white spot under one of the drivers side tail lights)

We coolled the car off before putting anything on it and did all the work indoors. Makes a huge difference....... The waterfall on the convertibles seems to NOT be made of SMC like the rest of the car and therfore does NOT look the identical color. That may also have been my eyes... ;aw Not sure about that.... Probably just me.

All in all, Mark's black C6 is very very nice.....

The paint looked good when I saw it, you could see the peel, but not as bad as many Corvette's I have seen. The more you make it shine, the more peel you see. :(

The orage peel definitely came out more after the treatments, along with the greater shine, I had my glasses on :) Overall it's still not too bad and the shine makes up for the peel.

Orange peel us just a fact of Corvettes period. I was impressed with the paint on Moose's car. It looked like glass when we were done. The Zaino brouggt out the shine so well my digital camera could not see past the shine and was only able to see the reflections of the surroundinngs instead of the car itself. I think the updates that were made to the paint system at Bowling Green paid off.

The paint manager at the Bowling Green plant talked about Orange Peel at length back in April when some of us were out there for the C5/C6 Birthday Bash in a seminar. He basically said that auto manufacturers are limited by the EPA to the amount of solvent they are allowed to add to paint which would let the paint flow out better and remain liquid longer.

A body shop on the other hand is not nearly as limited or governed. They also can spend a lot more time with a car then the plant can to get it perfect. This is why some people rave about a body shop doing a better job than the factory.

When my car shines, its interesting to see the reflection it gives off onto a building and see it all orange peeled in appearance. The paint itself looks relatively good to me on the surface, but the reflection reveals otherwise.

If the orange peel really bothers you, it could be wet sanded, but of course, you are removing paint when you do that. A few people at the NCM for the birthday bash spoke about their success with wet sanding that took them days.

I would agree and disagree, I see a lot of C5's and C6's every month, some look great and other look like they were painted with a roller, I am not kidding, they should have never been allowed to leave the factory. This is not just a Corvette problem, a lot of new Porsche paint is no better. :(

Isn't it more a matter of sanding out the finish than the actual application? - and is it in the paint, clear, or both?

Here are some pictures of Moose's car after Glenn and I were done. To eliminate or reduce orange peel you have to wet sand the car. Not something I would suggest for anything short of a total show car.

Yes, it sure looks shiny. Nice job guys...

You can see that orange peel in the 3rd picture where you see the relections of things looking distorted and lumpy looking.
