View Full Version : Anybody notice the rise in number or ricers since f&f2 came out?

It's just sickening. just last friday I went down to wawa to get some grub as me and my buddy were working on his 67 VW bug at about 9pm and what do we see there but a group of really freaky looking cars, 4 in total, all civics with wings and body kits. When we came out of the place we went to my car and one of the guys from the ricer group starts talking trash about my car!! Fricken @#$#$! It's like talking to a brick wall with those guys so I did what any level headed corvette owner would do and revved my engine at them. That shut them up :D
Teenagers seem so brainwashed these days. Parents and tv are teaching these kids that a civic with a wing is faster then anything on the road coupled with a bunch of stickers and colored lights.

Steve tell us how you really feel. I know deep inside you really want one. You know one with a really big wing , maybe two wings.

and Type R stickers too. You do realize that each sticker is worth at least 10 hp;bl

Neon strobe lights are for Disco's ... and WINGS are for fairies! As for really wanting one (ricer) ... I guess I can use a few hundred of those ricers ... ya know you can recycle Aluminum for cash! :D

One of the oddest "rice" type cars I have seen was during the winter while I was at best buy. I the parking lot was this car, I think it was a probe but not sure. The whole paint job was actually spraypainted grey on, you could not mistake that spraypaint job but the weirdest thing about it was the wing was on the hood. Very odd, I really wish I had my camera at the time.

---Etiquette and aerodynamics lessons begin now ...
Install wing so that air turbulence creates downforce over the driveline axle.
Maybe that guy was looking through a Chilton's Manual ... not sure if he realized that the manual was written for a REAR WHEEL DRIVE CAR!

The only problem with the WING THING is that those LARGE wings won't actually do any good until about 200MPH.
And James, GROWLING at the Jap cars is a GOOD THING ;)
But some of those so called RICERS will SMOKE your doors
Yours to Steve!
NEVER underestimate your opponent!
Looks can be deceiving ;)

You forget, I am invincible. So says the black knight!
Yes but it was American Iron that was the star of the movie with the Yenko and the Hemi:D

Yes, I understand. NOS in a Yugo might beat a stock Vette ... but I'd still rather drive a stock Vette! While some of those ricers can blow my doors off in the quarter mile ... I am sure I can hold my own through the twists, curves and turns. I drive on roads ... not drag strips!
RICER Saga, part #2:
Saw a blue Civic today ... windows were tinted to about 10-15% all around ... car was lowered an inch or two all around ... body cladding kit all around ... bumble bee exhaust ... car was dirty as all heck all around. I laughed to myself. With all that he has done to his car ... it is STILL a Civic! Hey - they HAVE to try to make their cars look impressive! ;at
... alas poor Eureck ... they've failed! ;ac
I drove the '95 to work. I have about 12 miles of mountain road with a lot of twists and turns and hills...pretty much fun but one must be careful on the straights because of deer and occasionally bear.
Anyway this morning I had headlights on my rear for about 2 miles until a straightaway then he passed...WRX. He must have been going 90! Don't wish bad luck on anyone, but that guy is living on the edge. That road isn't for the "Fast and Furious"
I guess the phrase "No Fear" applys.

Hey guys, just get used to it. You have 2 generations of ecstacy laced, bolt headed, needle nosed clods that won't buy anything American!! ;rm;rm Then they watch bone head movies like fast and furious and believe that crap!! Look, we all have had to smoke some schmoe on occasion, but, I would never do it in heavy traffic. Anyway, we are totally outnumbered...so "get over it !!". Until American manufacturers come out with affordable cool cars again, the "buzzers "will rule....;www

Mike - You should have told those trash mouths to put their cars where their mouth is. One race title for tile in the 1/4 mile with no second chance. That would shut them up.

Mike - I'm not rolling over on this one! Just because they have quantity, doesn't mean they have quality ... or class!
The movie made a good point. The two imports needed new cars so they raced two guys with american iron. A Hemi and a Yenko.
It was clear to see that the American Muscle was the more dominant car as the lead was very large when the import had to drive head on towards the Yenko in a game of chicken in which the Yenko bailed so the import won.
They did trash the both the Hemi and the Yenko later.
They also trashed a Mustang and a C5 Vette.
Oh well.
It was a fun movie though poorly acted.
There is an editorial in Hot Rod magazine about the compact seen and whether they are hot rods. Very interesting if you get a chance to read it.

Wings begin working as soon as air passes over/under them. They're supposed to be tuned to give you X amount of force at X amount of speed. There is no "one size fits all". The whale tail on my old RX-7 was rated to produce a specific amount of force at 80MPH and that made perfect sense to me.
Buying a large wing and slapping it on a car without wind tunnel or other scientific testing is just plain ignorance. You have no idea how much force you're getting at any particular speed or if you're creating more drag than it's worth.

NOW we understand the mind-set of the RICERS! I don't think they buy the wings for downforce ... but rather, just one more attempt to be a sports car wannabe!

I have my flame suit on so here goes.... I think that the only difference between the kids with imports and we "older" car guys is the origin of the country that the car comes from... Their attention to detail and customizing is no different that what we did as young adults. I mean everything... take out the old AM radio and put in an AM/FM Stereo with more speakers, cut off the old exhaust and put on "cherry bombs"/ and headers, paint the wheel wells and put lights in them, Crager SS mags with larger tires on car worth not much more than the new mags and tires, .. They are the future of our hobby and we MUST treat the like we want to be treated... I will defend them to the death because the car hobby will die without them... Sure they dress different than us, their hair style is different, get over it and, silck back your hair into a DA, put on your jeans, white socks ,penny loafers, tee shirt (sleeve rolled up for your smokes) and get out and enjoy life!!!! Now go ahead , I'm ready!!!!

I checked out an interesting show on Comcast On-Demand
("cable favorites"/History channel/"HOT RODDING") recently and it made me think this tuner car craze has come full circle. And that's not necessarily bad for car buffs.
While hot rodders of the 40's and 50's were buying old Ford business coupes and turning them into fearsome rides, Hollywood responded with those great B-movie features about street racing and youth gone bad.
Now, younger people are doing the same, with Civics and other common cars, while feature films fuel the fire.
Don't get me wrong. Vette owners belong to a different league as we drive supercars.
But it's fun to look at the imagination that goes into the tuner rides.

Bill, I agree with you 100 percent!! Car guys are car guys, no matter what they are driving. What gets me is the fact that American manufacturers have let that whole scene slip away. ;tt;tt I think it's great that Dodge now has a souped up Neon and Ford makes those dog-s**t ugly Focus things. But, why hasn't GM got off their behinds with a new "F" body? And really the only muscle cars you can buy are Mustangs, Vettes & Vipers. Kids can't afford them, so, they have no choice but to turn to Civics & Jettas. Plus they're cheap & easy to soup up!
I know that they're bringing out another GTO and Ford GT & C6 vettes, but, they really need a new affordable Roadrunner type concepts...an affordable American iron for under 20K. Once one of them does it, they all will follow.
Joel, similar to what vettecaster stated in the show he watched. The old days hot rodding meant souping up the ride that was not nesessarily a fast car which is what the youngins are doing today.
I don't have the article infront of me so I cannot quote it but I think it said in the beginning what hot rodding is and at the end they said sarcastically that that they are doing the same things done before without calling them hot rods.
They did make it clear that hot rodding is not adding wings and body kits but rather performance parts. Zing not Bling.

I agree, they're doing their thing and it's keeping the love affair with cars alive... THIS HELPS ALL OF US! As for adding aerodynamic effects to cars, there's a lot more going on than just changing the looks. Anyone who thinks they're just for looks should try holding a 1'x5' piece of plywood in the back of a pickup truck doing 30MPH or so. You'll learn real fast just how much 1 degree change in angle of attack can mean. You can ponder it while the truck comes back to pick you up. :D

;cc Not to disappoint you Bill. What the heck you talkin bout boy, You suck, Ricers suck, them things they call mufflers belong in the bathroom and all that crap they bolt on makes the car go slower! Wings on the hood, lights in their valve stems and blue lights on the hood. What are those guys thinking? ;bl ;bl ;bl
Just kidding Bill, I agreee with your an Mike's assessment of todays youth. I kinda remember getting looked down on when I fixed up my ole, '55 and '56 Chevys. I may not like what I see but they're doing the best they can with what they got to work with, except for the mufflers, they're just plain annoying! ;nn
This is one nasty c5...Now that's a WING!

Bull Bill! No flames ... but I still stand my ground. The analogy of younger kids buying what they can afford is not the same as what your age group did (you ARE older than me - right?).
WE souped up Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, and Mustangs ... not Pintos! Why isn't the younger crowd doing the same stuff to Mitsu Spyders, or 3000GT? A Civic is nothing CLOSE to a Camaro or Mustang.
These pukes are a different breed.

Oh well, I guess I'm a different breed then. My first car put on the road was a worked MGB. Later came the RX-7's. What can I say, I really like driving sportscars. But if I'm really as different as you claim, explain how you and I enjoy the same vehicle now...
It's a car thing!

Yo Steve, OK maybe not a (ford) Pinto, but I wouldn't mind having a Cosworth Vega or even a Rambler Rebel. They're getting some decent prices on them today. I had an '81 Vette as a daily driver, but the Mitsu Eclipse I've had for nearly 10 years with 120K is a lot easier to take, especially with parking on the street in S. Philly every day.
STEVEN LONG
06-11-03, 01:54 PM
RX-7, Cosworth Vega and Rambler Rebel are definately decent vehicles. The MGB is a neat vehicle on its own ... have never seen one of those souped up. My neighbor has a TR6 ... says it's a rocket. We did not hot rod AMC Gremlins or Ford Pintos for a reason!
Joel Fellman
06-11-03, 05:05 PM
The looks of an AMC Gremlin rank right up there with the Citroen. The Gremlin was as scary as the movie character! Then again, maybe some people think they are beautiful - like an ugly dog who's owner loves it to death.
As for the Pinto, well what can I say - FORD - LOSER - EXPLOSION!! And the TR6 a rocket? Sharp but no rocket!

---Actually, I told him that if his car was so fast, he shoudn't mind racing title for title. He "passed" on the idea ... the TR6 is still in the garage! :D

These posts are funny. The only cars that have tried to race me since I put a super charger on my little Vette have been rice burners.
The first two I ignored, the third one I tinkered with and let him win. Some where out there there near Quakertown, there is a Honda Accord with a duck scoop on the back who is telling all of his friends that he beat a Vette. Pretty funny.

Well, I just got back from the Doctor's office. Ya see ... I was leaving Costco earlier today ... when I saw the most hideous thing I've ever seen in person. NO! It was NOT Hillary Clinton, but rather, the Ricer-est Ricer ever! A heavily faded Yugo! I thought they had a shelf life of 12 months, or 12,000 miles! Hey, can ya imagine that thing with a set of 12" (diameter) radials, lowered one millimeter or two ... and an empty pea can for an exhaust!? I think that the car is technically "totalled", evey time the owner puts a tank of gas in that car! :D

Norm, I commend you!! ;bt That's the mark of a real "righteous dude"! You had the power to smoke his sorry arse, and, you spared that "duckster".. I know I've let some turkies pass too, and let them go home and brag how they beat a Vette. After all, unless there's no body around, it's better to let them go. Too much traffic nowadays and why endanger anyone. That's why we go to the track!
Yo Steve,
Like Norm, I let the ricers go on by - it must give them a little thrill to think they beat a Vette. Then they can go back to all their ricer friends, and have something to talk about beside their pimply face noses.
BTW, loved the pic, Norm! And it is not at all inappropriate!
