View Full Version : Marathon of Zaino today
It was a really good day for it. Overcast and not too hot or cold. No wind to blow pollen and leaf debris about. It was a good car detailing day. Its too soon for pictures since I'll be putting on more Zaino every night this week.
Carl stopped by my office and hooked me up with some supplies earlier this week and I went at it today. Washed with Dawn, clay bar'd the whole car using the show car soap/water mix, washed the car with Dawn again.
Then I did a Z2 ZFX, waited an hour, did another Z2 ZFX and waited an hour, then a Z5 ZFX and removed it after a half hour. I am beat. Since I plan to put more Z2 and Z5 on every night this week, should I bother with the gloss enhancer yet?
These thorough washings also revealed a few minor flaws in my paint that I was sad to find. I was also quite alarmed to see how bad the sandblasting effect was on my rear wheel wells. I put those rear mudflaps on today to compensate and protect against futher damage. My car only has 1400 miles in 6 months and those wheel wells took a paint beating down to the primer in some little specs and dots. I'll post some pictures of the other flaws once I take them. I have what looks like a paint crack that is luckily in my door jam. I'm not exactly sure how best to deal with that. I will post a picture for public discussion.
And all these so called paint flaws affect the car in what way bro?;)
Thanks for the INCH/LBS torque stick..
FINALLY got at it today! Will be returning it shortly..

personally I like to use the Z3000RU4real then RX200QT2 with a little SBU20 before a final rinse with Dawn Lemon Dishwashing detergent. Then a tasty Zest bar or Ivory soap with a T2XYZ final coat. The Vette smells great, looks good but suds up like crazy every time it rains!! One other minor thing, the Vette used to be white & now it's yellow. HELP????
JT, don't let the paint chips and nicks bother you, the Vette has one of the softest paint systems of any new car, if you drive it you will see these things, and of course you know where they are so they will stick out to your eyes, but no one else will see them. With all the construction on all the roads around here you just need to be careful where you drive.

I hope you removed the Z2 ZFX coats after each one, did you? By the way you write, it sounds like you kept layering them without first buffing them off. If so, that's wrong.
The best results I've had with all this Zaino stuff is:
1) Z2/ZFX
2) Buff that off
3) Z6 the entire car.
THEN repeat steps 1, 2 & 3 again and again and again.
You can always substitute Z5 any time for Z2 in this process.
Sorry, yes, I did buff off the Z2 ZFX and Z5 ZFX between coats. I had not used Z6 between coats though. I just did a Z6 spray coat (and prompt removal) last night at 10pm after the Sopranos. I will do another Z2 or Z5 tonight and a Z6.

Z-6 between coats will take any wax residue off and make the surface slicker allowing you to use less Z-2/Z-5.

The Zaino may get rid of that yellow problem Joel. ;)

Jt, What "few minor flaws" are you talking about. Paint chip, slight marks in paint??? Let me know. Bill
I've got a paint crack about 1 inch long in the door jamb. I've got what appears to be a paint drip mark about 1½ inches long near where the front quarter panel meets the front fascia. I've also got a what looks like a bubble that popped on the rocker panel under the driver door. The 2 exterior are in plain view, but the dark color obscures it. The paint crack in the jamb can only be seen when you open the door and look at the area nearest the drivers side seat bolster. I'll take some pictures.
Granted, these are small issues, but otherwise my paint is in good shape from the factory.
