This emial was sent to a friend of mine who does the Support our Troops show in NE Philly. Currently, we have 20 cars registered. If anyone out here would like to attend, please pm or email me your name, city, state, car you are bringing so that you can be put on the list to get in the base. This is a great way to meet the troops who are fighting abroad, their families, etc. Show your support and come out, we are limited to 50 cars.

Thank you again for the support your group has shown the 111th Wing members and families. We would like to extend
an invitation to your Cruise Night group to be our guest at our Family Day, Sunday, June 11th 10 am-2 pm at Willow Grove Air Base.
Our members would enjoy the cars and also would like to thank your group for always remembering our families.

Your group has touched us with your donations and if any could attend we would be honored!

Thanks,

Sarah Blank
President
Family Readiness Group
111th Fighter Wing Air National Guard

Also, time for the day is 10 am until 2 pm. Be at the Willow Grove Air Base as close to 9:30 am as possible. You must enter the base from the intersection at rte 611 & County line rd.
This is FREE. It is just a way to say "Thank You" to the troops for what they do, and for their families to see we are behind their loved ones!!
Thanks for the support guys!!!!!!

Just a note on this.

I know from previous events similar to this at the Willow Grove Base that every car entering for display purposes is required to show proof of ownership and proof of up to date Insurance coverage.
Not sure if they mentioned this or not or even if required for this event but I'd be willing to bet it will be required.
If you are not sure, I'd suggest being ready to have this info with you when showing up at 0930 hours at the gate just to be on the safe side.

pro69, I will see you on the 11th.

I am honored to help the folks and their families that give so much to the USA;ps

Hey guys, I am looking forward to seeing some of you there. I will have my new addition there if it passes inspection this coming tuesday at Bryners.

I work for the 111th every day as a A-10 mechanic ( I maintain the ejection seat systems) and appreciate your willingness to come on out and let us drool over your cars.

to get on base you must have

Valid driver license
proof of insurance
owners card
wear seat belts

The gate being referred to is the one near the Red Lion restaurant, that is the "air force" gate.... the main gate that everyone sees is the "navy gate"... both gates should have a list of attendees, but to be safe and to make it easier, use the Air force gate at 611 and county line.

Our security will have a better knowledge of the event than the Navy, yeah, silly, one base, two different gate manned by two different branches.

any questions, please feel free to ask here and Ill answer best i can

stingray, thanks for that info!!!

As I was informed, all the cars for this event are to use the entrance at County Line Rd. and Rte 611, that is where the list of names will be.

Also, from what I understand, the 111th is sending some troops (including their Commander) to Iraq right after this event, so this gives even more reason to show your support.

I am also planning on meeting up with those that are up my way that moring and making a caravan down. Currently, I alone, have 4-5 trailered cars coming!!!! with the caravan including......a 27 t-bodied race car, my car, a 70 Ply. Duster pro street car, another Mopar, a 92 Camaro, etc.

Currently there are about 30-35 cars signed up for this!!!!!!

Glenn, to be honest, I dont know many of the guys who fly them. They have thier little world and us mechanics have ours...

Yes, our wing commander is heading over for a while.... and a lot of our guys here were there for the initial invasion of both Iraq and Afghanistan.... we still have a lot of folks deployed around the world today.... and more to come in the future I am sure. I spent my time in the desert as well...

Yes, do use the air force gate at 611 and county line road... be careful as the "terrorist barriers" might pose issues for long truck / trailer combos.... its a concrete "weave" that you have to go through to get to the gate... just for those who are trailering, you might want to scope it out first before commiting to the weave...

Glad to hear of the assortment of cars coming, I for one will have our bone stock 78 Startfire there and maybe the Corvette.... I am working with my Chief here to see how many unit members will bring thier cars out to the show... If anyone is interested in seeing a Ejection seat and what it does, just ask "where is the Egress shop", Ill be more than happy to show you around..

Jim, question on those barriers.....I know for a fact that I am about 50' long total with truck and trailer, what's your thoughts?????

Glenn, still working on that. I will post up as soon as I finalize it.

Pro 69.

a 50 footer might be tough, maybe even impossible..... I have a crew cab silverado and i wont attempt to drag my 10" utility trailer through that gate, i use the navy gate as it is set up and geared for large trucks making deliveries and such.

Ill talk to security and see if there will be seperate accomodations made for folks who are trailering cars to use the navy gate...

Ill post here as soon as I get some dependable information.. If you commit to the air force gate and cant get through the barriers, it would be one heck of a mess trying to get back out of it.

I have 4 trailered cars coming with a possible 2 more. All of us are min. 40 feet in length. I am the longest with a crew cab ford with an enclosed 28' trailer.

74stingray454
06-01-06, 02:12 PM
working now to see if plans can be made to have truck/trailer combos to use the NAVY ( MAIN) gate on 611, all others use the air force gate at 611 and county line. Ill post as soon as i get more details but rest assured, no 40 footer will make it through the AF as it is arranged now.

As of Monday, 5 June

Issue has been brought to the attention of the higer-ups, so i should have a answer / game plan tomorrow or wednesday. It take time to coordinate our plans through the Navy... Again, one base, two different gates manned by two different branches, each with different commanders / rules to play by.

Just hope the weather co-operates with the show!

Also we have a A-10 on "static display" perhaps I can arrange for cars to be allowed near it for pictures.... have your hot rod parked right next to a decommisioned A-10, Ill have to float that by the commander to see if he'll allow that..

what kind of cars are coming so far?

Glennm27

Brian

06-05-06, 12:04 PM
Glenn, I heard of Sherbondy and heard he was a decent guy, but I dont make it a habit to know pilots.

Years ago when i was 18 years old, new to the Active Air Force and just in my first full year, I came to know a pilot... a nice guy.. Capt Truesdale was his name... A down to earth man, not a cocky young fighter jock, but a genuine decent person and easy to talk to..

In 1994 we were on a deployment to Nellis AFB outside Las Vegas, that one morning I happened to walk by his plane as he was doing his pre flight checks... wished him a day of "happy hunting and safe flight"....... three hours later he was dead, crashed with his plane and made no attept to eject.... After that I just keep my distance from aircrew.... it hurt too much really... may sound wimpy or what have you... it can happen to anyone...

weeks later i was questioned by the investigators who show pictures of what was left of Capt Truesdale..... and his seat... asked if I felt the seat was defective, later on it was decided he never attempted ejection, instead he had "target fixation" and simply flew his plane right into the target....

Pro69.... yeah, give me a idea of what is coming so i can tell the gang at work...

1. I am thinking about driving my car down, but my wife would end up driving her car seperately so that way if she had to leave early, she could. If, and it's a big if, this would happen, what would I need to provide to you to get her in??
