Hi Everyone:

We are looking into tearing down our old two car garage and putting up a new three car garage plus a combo home office - exercise - music room. Also we would like to add a small ( i guss you would call it a in-law suite ) apartment. I want a lift, but I don't know who makes the best one. In case this turns out to be a two car garage, I want to be able to park a car under the lift while one is on top. One of the bay's I will use as a work shop ,if it's only two bays i will add a small room off one side of a bay. At this point i don't know if this will be two story's or one . Right now i an looking at all possibles so if anyone has any suggestions please post. If you built one already what would you change or add if you had it to do over again. We are going to throw all our ideas together and see how much this will cost and then subtract what we could do without to keep it under budget.

Thanks Guys
John

When I built my garage I thought that a 9'ceiling height would be plenty...unfortunately now that I'm also looking into a lift, I wish I would have 11-12' in at least one bay.
Of all the lifts that I've looked at at Carlisle, the Backyard Buddy is the one that impressed me the most mainly because it uses enclosed columns. All the others I looked at had open columns where the sliders run.
They are all in the 3K range.
Also there were no show "specials". (Thought I could make a deal) ;cs

John, Kistler Buildings did a really nice job on our garage. You can have it anyway you want, and finished to any level if you want to save some money and do some of it yourself. Since this is going to be our last garage(I hope), we pretty much had a good idea of what we wanted. See thread in "Off Topic" for pics of our construction. Their web site is: www.kistlerbuildings.com. They can build anything from a tool shed to a huge warehouse. Contact man is Mike Cocco @ 610-349-4021.

Another idea would be to go on the CCDV Garage Tour! Check the calendar and Sept GasCap.

John, We started out with a 2 car garage then added a long, 1 1/4 bay on to that. Then we added another addition that can comfortably fit 3 but can take 5.
If you're thinking of a lift definitely go high on the ceiling in at least one of the bays. We looked at the Backyard Buddy and the Eagle and I think Dave was leaning toward the Backyard Buddy. When we talked to both dealers at Carlisle they were offering deals. Not much, but they were discounting.
We have natural gas heat in the first two sections but haven't decided what to do about the last addition.
Definitely come on the garage tour, it's a great way to get ideas. Billie

Billie's correct.. look at as many garages as possible and see what ideas you can borrow from each. The garage tour is the perfect way to do that.

John, you have to make time to get to the garages on the "Tour". Definitely a good place to get ideas!
