How long for new car to get oil change?

I never bought a new car before and everybody is telling me something different for when to get your first oil change.

Some people say after the first 500mi and some say after the first 1kmi, others are telling me after 3kmi.

I'm so confused :(

Jim, slow down. You can change your oil whenever you want. Your engine has an oil life monitor in it. It will tell you when the oil needs changing. Changing your engine oil before it's time will not hurt it though. I plan on getting the differential and transmission fluids changed after this weekend, I'll be doing some high speed driving with the new car and the breakin period is meant for those componets. I've seen the same things you've been reading so with all this information floating around I'd say it's time to get the operators manual out and read that. Again I would think it's more of a personal decision based on how "you" drive the car rather than on the experiences of people you don't even know. You gona join us this Saturday?:D
