Hello everyone,
This is my first post, so I wanted to introduce myself, and ask a couple of questions if I may...
I am a MD resident (just over the line), but grew up in Pike Creek, DE. I am in the process of gathering parts to restore a '59 Corvette. My father had one when he was a kid, and more importantly when he met my mom. Also, my uncle was a long-time employee of Corvette enthusiast Bobby Gold (sp?), so Corvettes are pretty much in my DNA.
I had an '81 Vette when I was 21, but had to let it go as I couldn't afford to keep it and go to school at the same time. I now have a '66 Chevelle that I have restored, and will be starting full-time on the '59 Vette probably next year.
My question is, I know that Bobby Gold passed away, but I wondered if it is still possible to see any of the cars from his collection? I have heard so many stories from my uncle about all of the 'Vettes he had, including the Shark proto and 1 of every year made if I remember correctly.
I look forward to speaking more with all of you, and hopefully meeting some of you at Corvette Carlisle!
Best Regards,

I bought my second Corvette from Bob Gold. It was a 1973 convertible, L82/4sp, polo green. This was about 1979, and as I recall Bob had 6 Vettes, but only 5 would fit in his family room, and the 73 was the one he liked the least, so that is why he sold it. He had two '63 split window coupes. One was owned by a guy who had a hook in place of one hand, and there was a notch in the steering wheel for the hook so he could steer. His favorite was one in the 56-58 range and he told me it was in his will to be buried in that car. I never knew anyone close enough to him to ever find out if that was how he went on to the afterlife! Plus he had a mid year or two, maybe a '67, but that was a long time ago so I can't be sure. I remember his horse farm was across the state line in both Delaware and PA, but he had a PA address, yet he had a low number Delaware license plate which he said was worth more than my '73! (which was about $6500 back then). Bob also had several race horses that he raced at Brandywine. That's about all I remember. Here's a shot of my '73 rag top:

VetBoy, thanks so much for your reply-
I'll have to see if I can find out if Bob was actually buried in one of his cars, that's amazing to hear! I would love to see his collection- Last I'd heard, his wife still has all of the cars because she wanted them to be kept by someone who would appreciate them- Apparently the rest of the family has no interest in cars (how dare they!!! 8^] )-
Anyhow, thank you so much for the pic of the '73. It's a beauty. If you would like to see my '59 Project, you can see info on it here:

It's going to be alot of work for me, but will be well worth it in the end.

I thinnk that Bob's collection has had some of the cars sold off by his kids. I know that his 63 started at $120k and was pulled from the auction at around $80K. I don't know how much is still in the family's hands... Bob Gold was a very close friend on Chip Miller, and Mr Miller was quite upset when Bob passed away. (he spoke at our meeting and I had dinner with him the week Bob passed away)

Hi Bill,
I know that Bob's wife didn't want the cars to be sold off, but I'm sure that it's hard to avoid when the children would rather have the money. Is Chip Miller a member on this group as well? My uncle who worked for Bob long ago told me that at one point, the entire second floor of his home used to be littered with complete fuel injection units, complete motors, all kinds of stuff. Sounds like my kind of guy! 8^]
Do you know if Bob ended up being buried in one of his cars, as the other reader above mentioned? I think that would be great for him if he were.

Chev:
Be thankful! You've got 2 great cars! Bob Gold (who spoke at one of our meetings in May, 1996) & Chip Miller are both Honorary CCDV members. Chip has been involved with CCDV since the late 60's and has spoken at several meetings over the past few years. He also invited the Club to his house for a bar-b-que not too long ago to see his 2 dozen + Vette collection. We had over 90 CCDV Vettes caravan over! He & his wife are super people!
Let us know if you need assistance with the '59's restoration.

Thanks!
Right now, I'm trying to track down a glove box door (have the console), so if anyone can help that would be great! It doesn't need to be show quality, just a door that opens and closes 8^]
Thanks,
