Play in Steering Wheel

Got a 90 C4. The steering wheel has up and down play in it, about 3/4 inch at least. Oddly the wheel is biased up and you feel the play when you pull it down when you let go it returns back up again. I figure i've got some loose hardware on it somewhere. Has anyone had to tackle this?

If you have a tilt wheel the bolts that hold the tilting mechanism may be loose. You'll have to take the steering wheel off but you should be able to get to two of the three bolts and tighten them. They are torx bolts, don't know the size off hand. It might also be a bearing in the column. They have been known to go. If you don't have any horizonal play most likely it's the tilt bolts loose.
