I recently purchased a "Tee"rific Alpine Head Unit Model CDA-9813. Now after several hours of "Happy Motoring" the deaded SYS LIGHT appears on the dash!
I did some research and found the problem might be with the ECM sensing the absence of the Dimmer Conrtol Switch. I imediately went back to the installer and had the Dimmer Control connected! That DID NOT correct the problem.
After more additional hours of some "Good Tunes" the darn SYS LIGHT reappeared!
The batter guages are reading fine! Does the computer need to be reset? Will it set itself soon?
Any suggestions? :(

The SYS light can come on for any number of reasons. Couldn't tell if you have a 95' or 96' but you should be able to pull codes. That will narrow it down. If you don't have a scan tool there is a way to get the codes manually. If your car is a 96 I have the manual and will send you the directions. Your problem may be as simple as the clock in the radio.

I believe the most common cause for the SYS light is low battery voltage. Not what you are reading on your gauges but what is available from the battery. How old is your battery? Maybe they disconnected it to install the radio and didn't tighten the clamps or the terminals are dirty. Could be a simple issue.
Any time they disconect your battery, as they should on any electrical work, it will reset your ecm. Then it will find the same problem, it would be worthwhile to have someone read the codes.

Hey Guys! Thanks for the suggestions! I need the advice!
Tony - I own a 96 Bright Aqua Metallic LT1 ( All Stock)
Never thought I would need a Scan Tool Perhaps this might be a worthwhile investment.
Do you know the cost and where I can get one.
In the mean time how can this be accomplished manually?
That Sys Light is driving me batty!
VetBoy - I dunno the age of the battery, when I did take a look no
year or month was punched out! It a CarQuest
Plus it appears a lil dirty, I'll give it a good cleaning!
Jaz - Seems you agree with Tony and feel reading the codes
will be beneficial. And I hope that cures the problem!
THANKS GUYS FOR ALL YOUR INPUT!

TonyB-- This moring I stopped by the radio installer and he pulled the codes for me!
Guess what! No Codes found! I guess that should be a good thing!
Anyway my next check may be to AGREE with Rick and Arleen and purchase a new AC/Delco Battery or a Sears Diehard!
I don't want this SYS MSG thing get the best of me! ;da

I think Sears can do a free check of your electrical system, it may not be just the battery but the alternator not charging it enough or something else. Could even be your belt slipping. Who knows, doesn't hurt to check! I would try and charge it up just to see if that makes the message go away. Then if it comes back maybe the battery won't hold a chrge or something else is wrong.

Glad to hear there were no codes, but if you had low battery voltage you should have had a code 16 present. |Anyway it should be an easy fix. ;yn

Good Morning! Saturday I visited SEARS checking for a complete set of tires for my 96 Nissan Pathfinder and they told me it would be $30 bucks to test my battery! Is it just me or should this be a FREE service? I dunno!
Anyway they told me I needed a SEARS DieHard Gold for $79.99 plus $30 (Difficult rated) Installation!
My battery now reads about 14.0 and 13.8 on the digital guage.
Is this normal! Seem like anything above 12volts should be good.
Another point! When the guys at the radio shop re-installed my dimmer switch. Seems like it's reversed!
When I turn on the car (WITHOUT) headlight on my dash is dim.
I can variably adjust the brightness, but it's still dim.
I thought the digital dash lights BRIGHT in the daytime, to help read the guages in the sunlight, plus a sensor is present for varing the brightness? True?
Now when I turn ON the Headlights the Digital Dash Display comes on Bright then quickly Dims - per the variable setting!
Is it just me or things a lil mis-wired?
Hello Mike,
I was reading your post and there is a reference on the corrvettefourm.com in the audio section and someone indicated they placed 2 1 ohm resistors in series (they did not indicate where, as in to the + lead??...I am sure though if you search on SYS error you can find the references) to avoid the SYS message in the dash display area.
Anyway, what is the status of your issues?
Talk to you soon...John

Hello John -
Thanks for the reply! I have since REMOVED the ultra modern Alpine AM/FM/CD/MP3 player from my 96 Corvette!!! :(
I was so happy with the head unit installed, but very upset with the constant reminder "SYS ERROR" flashing at me on the digital display.
Although, the dealer informed me of no specific problems with the vehicle, no error codes present, etc.... just that constant annoying "SYS ERROR" flashing problem.
So I RE-INSTALLED the ORIGINAL Delco AM/FM/Cassette!!
Problem solved! :D
I just gave up! Plus if and when I sell the vehicle, I won't have to explain the whole ordeal!
Not so frustrated ANYMORE! Mike!
