What was your first Corvette?

What was your first corvette and have any good/bad memories about it?

My first Corvette was an old 84 that I bought when I turned 21. It was the first car I bought with my own money.

A month after I bought it I almost wrecked it. Gunned it at a turn (611/Bristol) and went in a ditch. Luckily it was just under what the insurance company would pay before they would consider it totalled. Boy I learned a big lesson from that one.

I loved taking long drives in it with the top off. It was the meaning of total freedom. Sure it wasn't the fastest thing but it was mine.

Before I knew anything about Corvettes other than that they were pretty fast, I bought a 1960 from a local private party.
Lucky I did, he was ready to turn it into a custom pickup truck!
He had already bondo-ed the front end into something pretty grotesque. He sold the original FI motor and trans to a racer. He had installed a run out 283 with a 3 speed transmission which he mounted to the crossmember with a u bolt and a 2x4!
Anyway the good memories are the times a friend and I had building up a 350 with a BW 4 speed. We even pulled the rear axle and rebuilt the posi. (very tedious to set up.)
I had all the mechanical finished and glassed in a new front end when I lost my job. (mid '70's recession).
So I sold it for money to go back to college for....$1000! ;ae ;cs
Anyway I've seen it since and the guy that bought it did a great job restoring it. I ought to give him a call and see if he would sell it back to me for a grand. :D

1st one was a '59. red on red. 283 230hp with a PG tranny. Spent 1/2 my paycheck a week on keeping that thing running and the other half putting gas in it, gas was like .29 a gallon back then. Had some great times with it. Converted over to a muncie four speed put a cam in er and dual quads. The engine would rev to 7 grand without a whimper and I was getting around 3-4 MPG. I wrecked that one when I was 18, had it for over a year. :(

My FIRST!
Oh the memories are flowing now. A 65 Fuelie 4 spd convt. Nassau Blue, Black leather, Telescopic column/Teak wheel, and factory side exhaust. Got it when I was 18 from an GM engineer that worked with my father. His wife got pregnant and,well you know the story. We got the Vette for, are you sitting down, $1800.00.
That car was awesome. I beat it to death ( street racing) every chance I got. Hard to keep tuned, so I sold the fuelly unit and installed an Edelbrock CB-3x and a Holley carb. I later on wrecked it. Rear ended a Mercury :( . Hung a new nose on it, drove it for another year and sold it to a friend. Bought a Big Block Vette. :cool: Thats a whole other story ;)
