Car goes into the dealer today to have the transmission checked under warranty.... and you guessed it... it hasn't had the problem since I made the appointment. I've waited weeks so there's no way I'm canceling it now. I pray there is a code thrown to tell them what happened over a month ago. I heard someone say that a code is cleared after 50 restarts if the same code isn't triggered again. Is that true?
You can run through your DIC codes to see if it's still there. :)
I think it depends on the code itself. If you look at the service manual and read about the specific code, it will tell you when the code changes from Current to History and under what conditions.
Yes, an example of one could be that after 3 ignitions cycles of 10 minute driving, a code shifts from having the "current" flag to "history".

Steve called me from Bryner's today and told me the GM warranty rep drove my car and did notice one of the conditions I described. They proceeded to drain some tranny fluid for clues and found it was pretty burnt. The trans mechanic was out sick today but they suspect some internal damage has occured and hope to tell me better tomorrow. I have the GM extended warranty but I'll feel better once we get the final word in a day or two. He hopes to have her up and running by this weekend. This car hasn't shifted properly since I bought it yet the original dealer blew it off. Thank God for extended warranties. Now I just wish I had purchased the maximum limit!
I have gotten more than my money's worth from exetended warranty. It was a good deal. I would not have bought the car had I not been able to add it on.
Joe,I have an appointment with Steve on Wed.I'll check on the
progress.

What time are you going on Wednesday? If the TC shows up late tomorrow I'll probably drop it off on Wednesday. If you're going to wait for your car perhaps we can use the time to go to lunch. Or if you need to leave it I'll give you a ride back to work. Give me a call.

Steve wasn't able to get the transmission installed before he left on Thursday and he was off today. He told me this may happen so at least it wasn't a surprise. It should be ready on Monday. I don't have a list of all the parts replaced but know they did replace the entire valve body. Apparently they aren't designed to be repaired, they just replace the whole unit, so they don't really know if one valve was bad or what. Steve Fisher said nothing really came out of the transmission as an obvious cause, but the burnt fluid was enough of a sign to open it up. So I'll have to wait to see a list of things replaced. I sure hope they got the right part while they were in there. I can't wait to drive it to feel the difference!
